Adding an External Tape Drive

I have a HP Ultrium LTO tape drive that I would like to add to my CL380. It appears that the SCSI adapters on the the Nodes are configured for internal use. Is there an external SCSI port that I can use and what ID should I set.

Re: Adding an External Tape Drive

We played around with this for a time with a Compaq 20/40 external.
Save yourself some time and trouble and add the Compaq 64-bit/66 single channel wide ultra 3 SCSI adapter. If you decide to add an internal one later it will still work. You'll find that the boards in the servers tend to like to taking only to the shared storage.

Re: Adding an External Tape Drive

Is the HP tape drive a drive, autoloader or library? The onboard scsi on the cl380 does not support luns. If drive is not an autoloader or library, it should work. If drive is internal, use scsi channel 1. If it is external, attach to the external scsi port. You may have to remove the side pannel on the server. Compaq ships the server with a scsi cable attached to the internal scsi port 1. Internal scsi 1 and the external scsi port are the same channel and splitting the scsi bus is not supported.

Another option is to attach to the 2 channel 64 bit scsi controller. Port 1 is used to communicate with shared storage. Port 2 can be used for drives. You can use either the internal or external port for drive, autoloaders and libraries. The scsi card supports luns. The do not use sticker can be ignored on the 2nd external channel. Here is a link for doccumentation on how to connect a library to both nodes of the cl380. http://www.compaq.com/products/storageworks/tape-and-optical-storage/cluster-backup.html
