windows 2000server
Hi. How is everybody
anyone know a way to mount a scsi hard drive from a cold boot? I'd like to use a 3.5 floppy
wants to boot to dos, mount ntfs drive
and do a simple del of corrupt boot.ini
and rename backupboot.ini baddabing!
i edited the boot.ini a couple days ago.
hasn't booted since. it's been running for a couple years now... till I edited the boot.ini
I had edited the boot.ini, to remove a failed win 2003 server install attempt...
so
on the boot... i had to choose which os I wanted... however... 2003 being in that boot option (2000 is the actual working os) is not even a valid os, it showed up after the failed installation...
so.. the actual boot.ini, does not really carry a record of that boot option entry...
so when I edited the boot.ini I removed the one line that actually spoke of win 2000
:(
it's been so long since I dug on this machine, i forget how I even installed win2000
i've got what I believe to be the drivers for the smart array drive controller
i've tried 3 different mount ntfs drive w/scsi support...
just looking to do a simple edit del and ren
will put it back where it was.
in FACT! the one program called, ntfs4dos
WILL mount one of the 4 drives...
but it refuses to mount the C drive
gives me error... no umb's found
gives me error... volume on C is Di
(Di may be german, lol, most of the text that rolls during ntfs4dos boot is german)
says... beilebige (arbitrary) tastes druenken
lol
--
whew!
when I did successfully install win 2000 back in the day, it seems like I had to edit the config.sys on a win98se boot disk in order to load the smart array drive controller device... is that what I did?
maybe I should also edit another file on a basic boot disk
Thank you kindly

Re: Basic mount ntfs scsi drive sorta ntfs4dos
The ERD Commander CD (by Sysinternals) has software to fix NTFS partitions.
It can also boot a Windows-like enviroment in wich you can do things like copy and move files, but also edit plaintext files (like boo.ini)

Re: Basic mount ntfs scsi drive sorta ntfs4dos
I need to use 3.5 floppy as the cd drive will also require more editing to the boot disk..
(at least a 98boot disk doesn't give me cd access)
i edited the boo.ini, when I rebooted, it wouldn't boot.
we'll see

Refer to this
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/peboot.htm
It will boot in GUI then you can do it.

Re: Basic mount ntfs scsi drive sorta ntfs4dos
why does that page look familiar
mmm
so you think a bad boot.ini might keep a ntfs volume from being mounted
Im able to mount the next hotswap drive
so I got the idea to swap C for the spot that was getting mounted...
but.. it did mount the old C spot, and again would not mount C...
but as I say, the drive was just fine
till I edited the boot.ini, and on that very next boot.. she say bye bye..
