Clearing NVRAM

I'm having a problem with an EMU on my external storage box attached to this server (I've replaced three already). Second level said to clear NVRAM using the maintenance switch. What is the exact procedure? Power down, set the DIP switch. Power up into maintenance mode. Power down clear the dip switch. then run the SCU? Is that right??? Thanks for your consideration.

Correct process, though I'm not sure that would clear an error with an external device...
