hi
we have ProLiant DL380p Gen8 with 24 disk connected to P420i (firmware version 8.32)
smart storage administrator gives five warnings:
"600 GB SAS HDD at Port 2I : Box 1 : Bay XX could not be authenticated as a genuine HPE drive. The Smart RAID/HBA controller will not control the LEDs to this drive"
ilo4: Status Degraded (Not authenticated)
this warning on disks:
Model EG0600FCVBK Firmware Version HPD2
Model EG0600FBVFP Firmware Version HPDE
BUT there is model EG0600FBVFP with Firmware Version HPDE with status OK (see attach)
can anyone helps? how make disks status OK?

Re: could not be authenticated as a genuine HP drive
Hello,
the issue is most probably NOT related to the Hard Drive itself.
Is there an Expander Card installed in the server ?

Re: could not be authenticated as a genuine HP drive
Hello,
actually I was asking for the 12GB SAS Expander Card.
Is must be installed, otherwise the p420i Controller would not support all of these drives.
Try following:
- update p420i controller FW
- update sas expander card fW (https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=MTX_4357c67dda42426fbc234c37ed#tab-history)
after both updates, shut down the server and re-connect sas cable from the controller/backplane/sas expander
Connect cables again, start the server and check.

Re: could not be authenticated as a genuine HP drive
"- update p420i controller FW"
the current version is 8.32 Nov 02 2017
i can`t find more newer version.
"- update sas expander card fW (https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=MTX_4357c67dda42426fbc234c37ed#tab-history) "
error appears while installation:
The software will not be installed on this system because the required hardware is not present in the system or the software/firmware doesn't apply to this system.

Re: could not be authenticated as a genuine HP drive
Hello,
seems that there is no expander installed. Please specify "13 hdd on port 1internal and 11 hdd on Port 2 internal
all five hdd with warning is connected to port 2 internal" .
How many drives are there overall ?
If the FW Update and re-ceonnect of the cables do not help, you may contact the HPE Support (id server has an active coverage) for replacement of the HDD and/or controller.

Re: could not be authenticated as a genuine HP drive
the p420 Controller support up to 8 HDDs (4 on each port) and I am wondering what your configuration exactly ist, There must be an expander installed or an additional Controller.
Actully as an HPE Support Engineer I got many cases with same issue and we solved it by different actions
- sometime re-connecting the cables solved it
- or controller upgrade or downgrade
- expander card update
- HDD FW update
- HDD replacements or even Controller replacements
You may try downgrading your controller to the mentioned version. Do you have access to the iLO ? Please share an AHS Report (iLO--> System Information--> Active Health System Log) Reduce the time stamp to the last 24 hours (instead 7 days by default) in order to get a smaller file.

two sas cables is connected to two ports on motherboard on one side and to front panel cage (most likely with integrated sas expander ) on other side (see 2.jpg in attach)

SolutionHello @marya_admins
Thank you for the file.
You have the integrated 420i i controller with optional expander drive cage. The affected drives are in the bays 17, 18, 19, 21 and 22. The affected bays/drive have differen model numbers, therefore i would exclud the drive itself as a reason for the issue.
You may still try updating bay 21 and 22:
https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=MTX_520a9eb2bda245ce9aa8d2f85f#tab-history
I checked all available documentation and unfortunatley there is nothing else I could advise you to do, except the controller downgrade.
According your bootlogs, the issue started after the controller was updated from 5.22 to 8.32 .
Please keep in mind that in rare cases a downgrade may damage the hardware. If you decide to try downgrade the controller, my recommendation would be to do it in fe steps instead downgrading directly to 7.02. You may try first with 8.00--> 7.5-->7.02.

Re: could not be authenticated as a genuine HP drive
thank's for reply
i found only 7.5.0 and 7.0.2 versions for windows 2012
i can't find 8.00 (( where can i downloaded it?
how can i downgrade firmware version for example to 7.5.0 ?
when i run cp029122.exe i get message:
"The software is installed, but the installed version is newer than the version you are attempting to install.
Current Version: 8.32
Pressing 'Install' will downgrade the software to an older version."
if i click "Install", i get message:
"No operation was performed.
You may look at the setup log file for more details if desired.
Additional Information:
Update not attempted (or interrupted). All selected devices are either up-to-date or have newer versions installed.
Press the 'Close' button to exit Setup."

Re: could not be authenticated as a genuine HP drive
Hi marya_admins
The predicitve failure status mean that the drive will fail soon. I believe there is no other way to solve this, except replacing the affected drive.

Re: could not be authenticated as a genuine HP drive

i mean: why is disk status in ilo "degraded (predictive failure)" but in smart storage administrator and in array configuration utility there is no warnings ?

Re: could not be authenticated as a genuine HP drive
I also have same issue with his, but in my case just 1 drive showing that kind of warning message. I already reseat the hardware. After reseating the hardware, the warning message disappear. I'm afraid that the error will reoccur eventually. Can you help me fix this problem? Btw my machine is DL380 Gen 10. Thanks!
