DL580 Gen7 server build

I'm building a DL580 G7 server. I have installed a P812 adapter in it to connect to a D2600 enclosure. My question is this.

When selecting disks for the enclosure, will any disk that is listed as working in the D2600 work even if it isn't mentioned in the P812 list or the DL580 list?

Since the DL580 only mentions SFF disks, as those are all that can be installed directly in the 8 bays in the server, what LFF disks can I install in the D2600 that will work with both the P812 and the DL580?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: DL580 Gen7 server build

Hi @Hduston ,
Many of the disk drives are listed as common support for both Dl380 Gen7 and Smart array 812 Controller. Please refer quickspec of 812 Controller (Page no. 14) and DL380 Gen7 server (Page no.25)

HP 4TB 3G SATA 7.2k rpm LFF (3.5-inch) Midline 1yr Warranty Hard Drive 694374-B21
HP 3TB 3G SATA 7.2K rpm LFF (3.5-inch) Midline 1yr Warranty Hard Drive 628059-B21
HP 2TB 3G SATA 7.2K rpm LFF (3.5-inch) Midline 1yr Warranty Hard Drive 507632-B21
HP 1TB 3G SATA 7.2K rpm LFF (3.5-inch) Midline 1yr Warranty Hard Drive 454146-B21
HP 500GB 3G SATA 7.2K rpm LFF (3.5-inch) Midline 1yr Warranty Hard Drive 458928-B21

But, If you see the quickspecs (Page no.19) of D2600, above mentioned disks are not supported by D2600 but compatible for P812 controller and DL380 G7 server.

That could be useful information to someone else, but I have a DL580 G7, not a DL380 G7, so it doesn't help me with my question.

Re: DL580 Gen7 server build

What I want is to have the largest possible disks supported even at the expense of speed. E.g. would the 6TB SAS 7.2K rpm LFF (3.5 in) MDL 783669-B22 work with this setup? It is listed as being compatible with the D2600 enclosure. I'm researching which drives to purchase for this build.

Re: DL580 Gen7 server build

From the quickspecs of DL580 G7 - https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=c04123267&docLocale=en_US, we notice that the D2600 JBOD is supported with the P812 series controller (pg 37).
Checking D2600 quickspecs - https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=c04111697&docLocale=en_US, State that we can use upto 12 LFF drives (Pg 5)
You can check the P812 compatible LFF drives here - https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=c04111607&docLocale=en_US (Pg 13)
To answer your query, you may check 516828-B21 (HPE 600GB 6G SAS 15K RPM LFF (3.5-INCH) DUAL PORT ENTERPRISE 3YR WARRANTY HARD DRIVE) for a max of 12 drives in your system for maximum storage in LFF format.
