Hello,
I need some help after trying to reset iLO 2.8 on a ML350 G8 server.
What I did:
1. Update successfully iLO 4 to Version 2.80 from Windows desktop with Care Pack cp050769
2. Update firmware to P03093_001_spp-Gen8.1-SPPGen81.4 from linked .ISO file by booting over iLO console
2. Update BIOS to the latest available version (something mid 2019)
So far so good.
I noticed, that iLO Self-Test reports a problem with: Embedded Flash/SD-CARD. View details on Diagnostics page anf found this procedure described hier in this forum:
https://community.hpe.com/t5/proliant-servers-ml-dl-sl/ilo-self-test-reports-a-problem-with-embedded-flash-sd-card-view/td-p/7109055#.Y7PpPRWZOUl
After i hit the reset button in iLO Diagnostic I got kicked out from iLO (as expected) but I couldn't log in again. The iLO IP adress was still visible but not http service availible or rechable.
Unfortunately, all server fans running in high speed mode with high noise since then. I restarted the server over Windows Desktop (TeamViewer access) with no changes. Fans are still in high speed mode and iLO is not availible. I asked my customer to switch off an restart the server over the front panel but it doesn't change anything. Then I tried to update iLO again from Windows Desktop (Care Pack cp050769 Online ROM Flash for Windows HPE INtegrated Lights-Out 4 2.80) but got the error message "The software will not installed on this system because the required hardware is not present in the system or the software/firmware doesn't apply to this system. Unable to initialize the iLO Channel Interface"
the Update what worked before, can't be installed anymore.
From remote I have no idea, what to do to solve the problem. Especially, because the server now constantly makes a noise like a lear jet.
Any kind of advice would be appreciated!
Sorry for my English! German is my native language.
Regards
Andreas

Betreff: HP ML350 G8 corruptes iLO after reset and all fans in high speed mode
The iLO Chip did control the Thermal and Fan speeds.
Without iLO, the Server is going into Save Mode with full Fan Speed.
This Reset Button in the iLO GUI issue a reboot of the iLO Chip.
For me, it seems, that the iLO is no longer functional.
Are you able to Ping or ssh the iLO?
If not, try to remove all Power and wait 2min. , not only reboot.
The iLO Chip is fixed on the Mainboard, if it does not come up, it's dead and the only way is to replace the Mainboard.
But it's G8, a very old Server, he deserved to retire.

Thank you Cali!
I can ping the static iLO IP adress from my local network. But now my IP scanner doesn't show me any http ports anymore under the IP adress. Only an open FTP port.
No changes after disconnecting the server from power supply and reconnect after 10 minutes.
Yes, it's an old server but it ran fine until I clicked the reset button from iLO Web interface.
I hope that there is a way to reflash iLO ROM or another method to reactivate iLO.

Hmm, and is SSH possible?
Download Service Pack for ProLiant Gen8.1, boot from this and try to Update iLO.

Thank you Cali,
I have no physical access to the server yet.
Without iLO I have no chace to boot from an SPP .ISO from remote.
The latest SPP for Gen8 Server I have is P03093_001_spp-Gen8.1-SPPGen81.4 If there exist a newer SPP I have no access to because I have no Gen8 machine with a HPE service plan anymore and download unfortunately is prohibited by HP.
If it makes sense, I could ask my customer to switch on the noisy "lear yet" again and reinstall the SPP above again from Windows.
Do you think this could repair the currently toasted iLO?
Is there anything what could bring iLO back to life without changing the mainboard?

Mount the SPP 8.1 ISO on your PC (Or Customer PC).
Go to Folder: \usb\hpusbkey and use usbkey.exe to Generate a Bootable USB Stick witch contains the SPP Files.
Boot the Server from this Stick and try to Reinstall the iLO Firmware.
You may use the "Force" Option.

Cali,
I can't bother the customer with it and need to do it localy next week when I'm there (300 Km ->/ 600Km <-> to drive). Really annoying, that this happened.
Additionally I bought a used mainboard over Ebay to make sure, that I will be successfull in my process of reanimation.
Thanks, so far!
