Re: HPE 1.9TB NVMe Gen4 Mainstream Performance Read Intensive for vSAN
Hello,
The section from "Core Options > Read Intensive - NVMe - SFF - Solid State Drives" on page 32 of the HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 Server's QuickSpecs lists the supported drives. Please ensure that the required parts such as risers, fan and cables are used.
Regards,
I work at HPE

Re: HPE 1.9TB NVMe Gen4 Mainstream Performance Read Intensive for vSAN
Hello,
I would say, it depends on your vSAN Profile and ESX Version..
This Drive (I assume here this is P64844-B21) has DWPD of 1, TLC, and Performance Class F: see https://www.hpe.com/psnow/doc/a00001288enw?section=Document%20Types.
So the DWPD is the Big Question.
See the Q&A here: What You Can (and Cannot) Change in a vSAN ESA and vSAN Max ReadyNodeтДв
Q:- Are there specific device requirements in vSAN ESA?
We support Storage Devices 1 DWPD or higher and Class F or higher for performance.
We also require a minimum capacity for the device to be 1.6 TB or above.
Q:- Are 1 DWPD Storage Devices supported in vSAN-ESA-AF-8 profile?
No, 1 DWPD Storage Devices are not supported in the vSAN-ESA-AF-8 profile.
However, starting with vSAN 8.0U1, Storage Devices at 1 DWPD endurance will be supported for vSAN-ESA-AF-0, vSAN-ESA-AF-2, vSAN-ESA-AF-4, vSAN-ESA-AF-6, and vSAN-ESA-AF-HighDensity.
Q:- Can I have Storage Devices at 1 DWPD and 3 DWPD in the same cluster?
We do not recommend mixing Storage Devices at different endurance levels.
Q:- Can I replace a 3 DWPD Storage Device with 1 DWPD Storage Device?
No, this is not allowed. You can replace a 1 DWPD Storage Device with a 3 DWPD Storage Device to use a higher-performance/endurance Storage Device.
The device swap is for the entire cluster and will require a fresh install.
And also Broadcom Compatibility Guide.
So, if you have not an AF-8 Profile and this is an independent Cluster, and have ESX ESXi 8.0U1 onwards, I see no problem here.
But this is my own research, I'm not a vSAN Expert.

Re: HPE 1.9TB NVMe Gen4 Mainstream Performance Read Intensive for vSAN
Thank you .
we sold te server with 6 NVME 1.92TB mult vendor(P47845-B21), when we sold I didn't see any information about this drive be or not be comptible with VSAN. the customer didn't install the servers in 2023, and now they are implementing and saying that the drives are not compatible. I saw some information that around september 2023, No MultiVendor SSDs from HPE are currently supported with ESA due to very stringent requirements on ESA compat drives from VMware. I'm trying to find some old docuimentations to see if in that time the drive were compatible or not.
