HPE BCM 5719 1gb 4p BASE-T OCP Adapter Appears in device inventory, is non operational
I have two identical DL360 Gen11 servers and a now almost two week old support case with no resolution.
Here's whats going on:
The BCM 5719 OCP adapter is shown in device inventory with a status of "unknown", but is non operational. It's in OCP Slot 15 as it was pre-assembled prior to shipping. I've found documentation that some OCP cards need a cable (or pair determined by CPU population). The problem is that I have to prove this is our situation before I am allowed to order the cables. Has anyone else run across this? Did anyone have to have the cables before the BCM 5719 OCP adapter will function?

Re: HPE BCM 5719 1gb 4p BASE-T OCP Adapter Appears in device inventory, is non operational
Hi,
Did the support suggest to update the drivers or firmware for BCM5719?

Are you referring to OCP adapter bandwidth upgrade cabling?
Thank You!

Betreff: HPE BCM 5719 1gb 4p BASE-T OCP Adapter Appears in device inventory, is non operat
Hi!
take a look here (It“s for an ML350!!) : https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=sd00002366en_us&page=GUID-236C4EE0-AEEB-48FE-9813-140B5FECC8FF.html
Seems that the OCP Bandwith cable is a must have (?) - which I do not really understand - the BCM5719 is a four port 1 GBit card.
Is there a bandwidth upgrade cable really needed??
Second point: Seems it“s nowhere available in Germany.....
Regards,
Sebastian

Betreff: HPE BCM 5719 1gb 4p BASE-T OCP Adapter Appears in device inventory, is non operat
Hi,
I have the same exact problem. Does this mean that we need this cable https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=sd00002812en_us&page=GUID-C122E2BF-D64F-4C81-B49A-55CF7ED269B9.html&docLocale=en_US . Thats not this cable ?
P48828-B21 HPE ProLiant DL3XX Gen11 OCP2 x16 Enablement Kit
This server is Factory integrated. Does this mean they forgot to put that cable or maybe we can change OCP slot?

Hello,
we solved the issue.
As written above the BCM 5719 1gb 4p normally does *not* need the x16 upgrade cable.
At our setup the card started working after a firmwareupgrade of the card itself.
So you need to connect the card once with the upgrade cable (then it will be recognized) and do a firmware upgrade - happily we had also a raid controller connected with the x16 upgrade cable, which we could use for updating.
After updating firmware (I suggest also to upgrade the system rom) the card works also without the x16 upgrade cable.
Very annoying and suprising the HPE did not deliver the cards with an actual firmware....
Even the HPE support did not helped us out here
Hope this helps you.
