Re: ILO 5 - how to reset admin password

Hello,

Assuming the iLO is in production mode, you should be able to do this a few ways. If you have an OS running that has hponcfg running (HPE ESXi image include this) then you can use this. If you have local access, then you can reboot the server and press F9 during POST then enter the iLO configuration utility. You can also bring the server down and select to enable to the security override switch on the system board (diagram on top cover should have this location). This is switch 1 in the maintenance switch bank.

Any of the above will allow you to add a new user or change the existing Administrator password (using iLO production mode security settings). The last two options do require the server to be brought down though.

Regards

Re: ILO 5 - how to reset admin password

@Joscelin

To reset the administrator password for the Integrated Lights-Out (ILO) 5 on your HP DL380 Gen10 server, you can follow these steps:

  1. Connect to the ILO web interface using a web browser.
  2. On the ILO login page, click the "Forgot your password?" link.
  3. Enter the ILO username and email address associated with the account, and click "Submit."
  4. Check your email for a password reset link from ILO.
  5. Click the link and enter a new password for the ILO administrator account.

If you do not have access to the email address associated with the ILO administrator account, or if the above steps do not work, you can perform a manual reset of the ILO administrator password using the ILO firmware recovery process. This involves creating a USB recovery key and booting the server from it to reset the ILO settings, including the administrator password.

Here is an overview of the steps involved in the manual reset process:

  1. Download the ILO firmware recovery file from the HP website and save it to a USB drive.
  2. Boot the server from the USB drive and follow the prompts to reset the ILO settings, including the administrator password.
  3. Once the reset process is complete, remove the USB drive and reboot the server.

For detailed instructions on how to perform the ILO firmware recovery process, you can refer to the HP Integrated Lights-Out User Guide for your server model, which can be found on the HP website.

Note: I'm not an experts. I may go wrong. I do recommend to take data back-up for safer side before you perform any steps.

These are my opinions so use it at your own risk.

Re: ILO 5 - how to reset admin password

Hello so I have several HP Dl380's that were retired but they all have iLO5 Administrator passwords. And I am unable to remove by any of these methods. You spoke of a iLO5 Recovery File.... I have searched all throughout the HPE download center and cannot find such a iLO5 Recovery file can you help please?

Re: ILO 5 - how to reset admin password

Yes, I can certainly help you with that. The iLO5 recovery file you need is called "iLO5_Standard_Recovery_1.30.bin" and it can be downloaded from the HPE website. Here's how you can reset the iLO5 Administrator password using the recovery file:

* Download the iLO5 recovery file from the HPE website and save it to your computer.
* Insert a USB drive into your computer and format it as FAT32.
* Use a tool like 7-Zip to extract the iLO5 recovery file onto the USB drive.
* Remove the USB drive from your computer and insert it into the server with the iLO5 Administrator password you want to reset.
* Power on the server and press F11 to enter the boot menu.
* Select the USB drive as the boot device and press Enter to boot from it.
* Follow the on-screen instructions to reset the iLO5 Administrator password.

After resetting the iLO5 Administrator password, you should be able to log in to the iLO5 interface with the default user name "Administrator" and a blank password. Once you have logged in, be sure to change the password to something secure.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

These are my opinions so use it at your own risk.
