In place upgrade from Windows server 2016 to 2022
I need to upgrade a server DL360 gen10 to Windows server 2022 for software compatibility reason fron an installed Windows server 2016. The server is compaatible with Windows server 2022 and Microsoft certify the possibility do do an in place upgrade directly from 2016 to 2022.
But i have a big issue, the server is installed in Italian language and when i start the media (Windows server 2022 HP ROK edition) it try to install it in english language, this dont permit me to do an inplace upgrade retaing app and files as installed now but just a scratch install from new (the keep file and app option is grayed out). There's a way to start the setup.exe (is a multilenguage installation if started from boot, i verified that) in italian language? So i can keep my file and up?
Regards, Ivan.

Re: In place upgrade from Windows server 2016 to 2022
Hi,
Keep personal files and apps option is greyed out, this can happen due to selecting a different language for the Windows installation compared to the language currently in use.
This is not a hardware issue, there are some articles on the internet which can help you fix it, but make sure you have taken a backup of your data before proceeding.
Data integrity is customer responsibility. HPE recommends having data backup frequently and before performing any activity so that it can be restored during disaster recovery.
Some hints from other portals:

Re: In place upgrade from Windows server 2016 to 2022
@Ivan_Teglia Hi Ivan,
Were you able to solve it?
I'm exactly in the same situation as you.
I followed all the HP and Microsoft guidelines by removing unsupported roles, updating the drivers and yet it doesn't give me the option to keep the files.
I also have the server in Italian, Swiss region and I purchased a new Windows Server 2022 STD ROK license from HP.

Re: In place upgrade from Windows server 2016 to 2022
Hi,
no solutions to it, I tried several switches, but nothing helps.
Seems the ROK ISO doesnтАЩt have an option to do an in place upgrade in other language than English, even if installing directly starting from the disk or ISO you have the multiple language option.
HP state that is not a hardware issue, true, but it's a software issue with a software they supply.
I'm sorry i can't be of any help to you.

Re: In place upgrade from Windows server 2016 to 2022
Thanks for the reply!
I solved the problem by setting the server to it-IT (previously it was to it-CH), eliminating all other additional languages тАЛтАЛand downloading the official Microsoft Server 2022 STD it-IT ISO.
It was really a language problem.

Re: In place upgrade from Windows server 2016 to 2022
Good to know.
How did you manage with the license? I don't think license number for HP ROK work on a standard Microsoft Server.

Re: In place upgrade from Windows server 2016 to 2022
Instead it worked, I entered my HP ROK license number into the original Italian image of Microsoft Server 2022 and it was accepted and activated correctly.
