Installing win2k server on ML 350 Raid 5

Hi,

I'm about to install Win2k server on a new HP Proliant ML350 Raid 5 and want to know with Raid 5 if I can create a multiple partitions config that will be fine if we need to replace a disk. I want Win2k on one partition and data on another but I'm not sure if Raid 5 fault tolerance will hadle it well if a disk crashes and need to be replace.

Thanks

I'm assuming you have some hardware based array controller. If so, then the fact your using a raid 5 will be transparent to the OS (it will look like one big drive). There will be no problem with having multiple partitions and all raid functions will operate normally (including a rebuild).
The truth is out there, but I forgot the URL..

Thanks for replying so fats. Yes there is a hardware controller which raid 5 fault tolerance is enable. For exaple, in that kind of configuration if I need to replace a faulty drive, how do I proceed then?

Since this is a Proliant, I'm going to make the assumption we're dealing with a. a smart array controller and b. a hot plug drive.

When you have a drive failure with this type of config all you should have to do is get a replacement, pull the failed one out, put the replacement in, and voila - it's rebuilding. That's one of the good things about the SA controllers. There is no need to tell it to rebuild or anything.
