Re: ML110 Gen11 - Fan noise

Hola Jack2024.

Hi Jack2024. Keep an eye on the temperature of the computer. I ended up returning it. The fans stopped making noise after all the updates and patches. But a new problem arose: the CPU temperature shot up to 90º under high workloads.

Re: ML110 Gen11 - Fan noise

Hi,

I had the same issue with ML 110 GEN11, I mean to say FANs making noise as an airplane. In my case, I solved it with the latest firmware version (P76091_001_gen11spp-2024.11.00.00-Gen11SPP2024110000.2024_1113.24).

Re: ML110 Gen11 - Fan noise SPP 24.11.00.00 esolve the problem

23 01 2025

you have to do the SPP 24.11.00.00

before the update the ML110 sounded like a boing 747 when taking off.

after the update is very silent, like the ml110 also when running OS is better.

do the SPP resolve the loudly noising fan problem

Hola, con laultima SPP, se ha resuelto.

Me podriais ayudar a hacer un raid, sevidor ml110 gen 11, con dos discos sata.

Saludos.

Hi, with the latest APP, it has been resolved.
Could you help me to make a raid, ml110 gen 11 server, with two sata disks.

Hi Gents,
i have had the same issue. from my Client Windows 11 and CURL curl-8.12.0_1-win64-mingw this command works, finally!
Before fan speed was around 30-36% afterwards 17% quite silent!

curl --request PATCH --url "https://IP-Adresse/redfish/v1/Chassis/1/Thermal " --user "Administrator:PASSWORD" --header "Content-Type: application/json" --insecure --data "{\"Oem\": {\"Hpe\": {\"FanPercentAdjust\": 50}}}"

Re: ML110 Gen11 - Fan noise SPP 24.11.00.00 esolve the problem

I can finally report back that in my case the issue has been resolved by upgrading everything using the latest HPE SPP for Gen11 servers.

Now on boot the fans do not go crazy when Windows Server 2022 is booting up, the noise is not noticable + it slows down the fans even more once the OS boots up completley and the agent starts running.

Also, in the December 2024 BIOS version they added a new "Smooth Cooling" option inside the ILO6 thermal settings, which "fixes" the fan speed jumping with CPU spikes, but can lead to CPU throttling. But in my case this isn't an issue and the quietness is preferable.

YES thank you so much, you saved me and the server from going through the window after 2 days of constant noise and a useless HPE support.

Re: ML110 Gen11 - Fan noise SPP 24.11.00.00 esolve the problem

Yes, Cyberstore I had this problem too and used this method.
I tried all BIOSes, even the "exotic" 1.46, Agentless all versions, but Fan3 > 36%.

For Windows

winget install --id=cURL.cURL -e

Then close and reopen CMD (No PowerShell)

curl --request PATCH --url "https://IP_ILO/redfish/v1/Chassis/1/Thermal" --user "UserILO:Password" --header "Content-Type: application/json" --insecure --data "{\"Oem\": {\"Hpe\": {\"FanPercentAdjust\": 50}}}"

The only problem is that it doesn't save data IF the ILO power is interrupted, but that's not a big deal.

Hi MaxBr,
you can build a scheduled Task. That worked for me after Server restart etc.

Re: ML110 Gen11 - Fan noise

Hi,

in our experience of ML110 Gen11 with NS204i-u the problem was not solved through updates.

It only got better with updates, but the main issue is the fact that the NS204i-u is outside the air buffle, therefore the vents can spin as much as they want but the NS204i-u is not really going to get cooled, regardless the energy consumption for spinning the vents and making all that noise.

HPE in a past ticket (now closed) forwarded me this image of how the cooling is supposed to work (see the rows)

ML110 Gen11 ventilation systemML110 Gen11 ventilation system

However the depicted flow doesnt really work unless one takes away the internal black-plasitc air buffle.

On this point WE WONDER IF we are supposed to take away the upper part of that air buffle. (otherwise, how is it supposed to work?)

One solution that worked for us is the one on the image below, that in fact creates the cooling flow of the upper image

ML110_Gen11_air_guide.jpg

With this external air guide, the NS204i-u is cooled by the little air flow coming in, the server finally manages to have its temperatures under control, vents go down in speed to less than one half, and the server becomes finally silent.

Note that we took care of covering no more than one fourth of the rear vent, to allow all needed air out.

Without this, we already had a failed nvme drive, failed in less than two years.

HPE, how should we proceed?

kind regards
