ML350 G5 VRM/PPM confusion

Hi all. I'm replacing the single proc in one of my clients ML350 G5 with two processors. I realize I'll need a VRM/PPM. In a previous thread I saw part 413980-001 which appears as a "Power Module : Processor power module (PPM)"
On partsurfer. But it appears to be more costly than a similar item. In my search what I did find is a bunch of G5 ML350 cpu kits which include the following.
407748-001 PC Board : Processor power board (PPM)

Are these two the same thing?? I mean the partsurfer description calls them both PPM??

Thanks!

Hi PK,

VRM=Voltage Regulator Module
PPM= Processor Power Module

In ML350 G5 server, you have to use PPM for processor not VRM.

If it helps, pls assign point.

Re: ML350 G5 VRM/PPM confusion

The VRM/PPM seems to perform the same function friend. My question is in relation to if the 407748-001 part is sufficient for my adding a second CPU to my ML350 G5.

Re: ML350 G5 VRM/PPM confusion

FYI. 407748-001 Does in fact work. You do not need to buy 413980-001 or any other part number as a PPM for a ML350 G5. This part number works fine, we bought one and successfully installed it during a cpu upgrade.

Cheers!

I can confirm this. At least with my 80W Xeon 5405 there is no problem.

Re: ML350 G5 VRM/PPM confusion

TO use the 5460 cpu's x 2 I had to update the D21 firmware, HP have kindly put it somewhere on their site, it works.

Now to find another ppm for the G5.
