Simple Hard Drive Question
Hi - I have a Prosignia 200 server that has two identical hard drives in it. I was wondering if anyone knew what is the easiest way to swap the boot drive. In other words, right now I have C:\ and E:\ hard drives. How can I make the E:\ drive the drive that the system boots from? I need to reinstall Windows NT but would like to keep the current C:\ unscathed so if something should go wrong with the installation of NT on the other drive, I can always "put things back the way they were" and make the system boot off the old C:\ again.
Thank you very much. I am sure it is fairly easy to assign which drive is the boot drive, but I was uncertain if there is a system partition that must be created on the new boot drive before it can be booted from or something along that order.

Re: Simple Hard Drive Question
With non hot-plug drives, in order to change the drive letter designations (assuming that there is one partition per drive), you must change the SCSI id's on the drives. Chances are that the SCSI id's are currently 0 and 1. You will need to swap the id's on the drives. Once the id's are changed, the drive letters will change for the new installation, however, since you will have two valid partitions at the time of setup, the drive letters will be c: and d: immediately following the installation of NT.

Re: Simple Hard Drive Question
Hi...In Addition,it looks like your CDROM drive has been given the drive letter as D:
Change this to something new like f: first.Change the SCSI ID 0 to 1 & 1 to 0.Load the windows & find out everything works fine.If it does then start disk administrator & your previous e: will now be recognised as d:.If not, assign drive letter as d:.Change CDROM drive letter to E: in the end.
