Upgrade DL 360 G9 Processor

Hi,

I try to upgrade my HP 360 G9 processor from an E5-2620v3 to a non HP E5-2695v3 ES

At boot a get the following error message :

275-Unsupported Processor Detected - Processor stepping not supported.

Action: If available, update the System ROM to a version supporting this stepping through ILO's out-of-band FW update interface.

- System Halted!

I had the latest FW but updated it again to :

Product ID 774435-425
System ROM P89 v1.40 (05/06/2015)
System ROM Date 05/06/2015
Backup System ROM P89 v1.40 (05/06/2015)

Is there any way to by pass this check and make this server boot ?

Regards,

Re: Upgrade DL 360 G9 Processor

Hi,

Are you replacing the existing processor or adding this as a second processor.

Mixing different processor types are not supported inside a single server.

Follow this article to resolve this issue:

I have a doubt, if the new processor is fault free, the reason being, you mentioned it as E5-2695v3 ES, where ES means "Engineering Sample".

Good Luck.

Thank You!

Re: Upgrade DL 360 G9 Processor

Hi,

Yes it's for replacing the existing processor.

And Yes I want to use an "Engineering Sample" as E5-2695v3 should be supported by this server the BIOS seams to block when stepping is too low.

Any way to bypass this ?

Re: Upgrade DL 360 G9 Processor

No,  the System ROM for HP servers contains the Intel® microcode, also called processor support code, that the system uses to initialize the processor and ensure proper operation of the platform.  A ROM update that contains the microcode for that particular stepping version is required.
