Connecting a e-Class blade enclosure to a MSA1000

At work this is what we have just got for a Webfarm!

HP ProLiant DL380 G3 packaged cluster - MSA1000

ProLiant BL10e (e-Class) Blade Encolsure with a GbE Interconnect Switch

What im wanting to know is what extra hardware is required so that we can connect the Blades to the MSA1000, which the the 2 DL380's are already connected to via SCSI?

Cheers

HP does not provide a way to do this. The basic problem you have is that the BL10e blade does not have either fibre conenction or a slot to put in a fibre HBA. So you don't physically have a way to connect to the fibre SAN.

Also, I'm a little confused on your statement about the packaged cluster. If it is an MSA1000, then it is fibre channel and the DL380's are connected via fibre and not SCSI. If it's an MSA500, then they are conencted directly via SCSI cables.

HP does offer an iSCSI router, the the BL10e NIC is not supported (only supports Gb ethernet, and the BL10e NIC is 10/100)). You could *probably* get it to work, but it would run at 100 Mb etehrnet (slow) and would not be a supported configuration. This would only work if you have an MSA1000, not an MSA500. Info on the iSCSI router is here:

The easiest way to do it, in my opinion, would be to do a simple file share over the network.

Re: Connecting a e-Class blade enclosure to a MSA1000

on a second look, it is the HP ProLiant DL380 G3 packaged cluster - MSA500 that we have and not the MSA1000, that is why the two DL380's are connected via SCSI.

Re: Connecting a e-Class blade enclosure to a MSA1000

if that's the case, then there is really no way to connect the BL10e to the MSA500 storage system. Your best bet is through a simple file share
