Event query results add 1 hour to event

Event query results add 1 hour to event

Hi

Event query result lists always display the received time as one hour ahead of the actual event but displays the correct time if you select individual event details.

I have installed CIM XE 2.1 using two different sources, on two different servers and accessed via two different client browsers with the same results. I have read that CIM XE can intelligently adjust for different timezones but can confirm that all components are within the same timezone and syncronised to the same timesource. The intriuging thing is that the 'Last Update:' field in CIM XE displays the correct time when updated.

Re: Event query results add 1 hour to event

Hi

Just found the document below on your support site and think this is the problem I have. Seems like you still have not fixed it in 2.1? I'm not happy with the work around as we have a standard environment and the change although simple would mean we would have to remember to treat this server differently. Please can you advise me what the status is on this bug and when we can expect it to be resolved.

Re: Event query results add 1 hour to event

What timezone is the XE server in? What timezone is the browser in? Did both systems correctly have their time set for daylight savings time if you are in an area that honors DST?

Both Servers and Browser Clients are in the same timezone. Both systems correctly have their time set for daylight savings time and are in an area that honors DST.

Is the time correct on the server? That is the most likely cause of the error - the server doesn't roll into DST. What timezone are they in?

Re: Event query results add 1 hour to event

Hi Scott,

In answer to your reply, both servers and clients are in the GMT time zone with DST selected. All unit's syncronise to a single time source and I have confirmed that they are all set to the correct time.

I can now categorically confirm that I am having a known issue as described in http://www.compaq.com/support/techpubs/customer_advisories/ES000609_CW01_0.html. I have also applied the CM EX 2.1b update and am still experiencing the problem. Please can you advised me when a final fix will be available, as opposed to the work around. As I stated in my second reply, the current solution is unacceptable.

Re: Event query results add 1 hour to event

OK so now I understand what is happening. You are in fact seeing an issue that is mentioned in the advisory. Unfortunately this problem isn't under our control. What you are seeing is a problem with Sun's Java virtual machine (that CIM XE runs under) in that it doesn't acknowledge DST for your timezone (it ignores the OS setting.) The only workaround is to disable the flag on the XE server and set the time manually. And I definately understand why this isn't the best solution and why you don't like it (I definately don't like it either.)

The good news is we've updated to a later version of Java for the next version of CIM XE and it works properly. While I know this doesn't address your proble now by the end of the year you'll have a new CIM XE that fixes the problem.
