Insight 4.9 agents

There seems to be a dependency for SNMP service for the compaq foundation agent to start. Is there a way to bypass this dependancy other than going in the registry. I only need a log file to be generated by the agent app for this specific server without SNMP. Any ideas?

Since the Foundation Agents bring along the SNMP MIB files, there is no way (in my opinion) to install them without SNMP pre-installed. The Compaq installer will check for this dependency. Why don't you install SNMP and the Agents and then uninstall both afterwards. I've done this several times without any issues (on NT/W2K).
