Events missing

When a device status changed from normal to critical, major or minor
and then back to normal no events are created!
What is wrong? I need this for documentation. Of Example
Network-Cable unplugged or Switches/Hubs failed!

Re: Events missing

XE doesn't create events for each status change, but you should get an SNMP event from the platform whenever it sends you a trap for the condition. So, when a fan fails in a server you should get an Event in CIM XE indicating the fan failure while the overall status changes to degraded.

This is something we are changing in a future version, however. We'll make it optional to get Events created for each status change.

Re: Events missing

I agree with NW. We have to have a log of this information. I cannot implement XE until this information is available. CIM32 would record all messages in the alarm log. Please inform your technical support people of this missing feature. I have wasted 40+ hours reasearching this problem and have spoken to 3 different techs from Compaq. None were aware of this and two of them gave me false information.

Re: Events missing

You can setup tasks to be execute when a device meets or no longer meets a query (which can be a status). This can be used as status change info, a device will go to critical if its unavailable or unresponsive to SNMP queries

Re: Events missing

ibanyand is correct - this is how we implemented the CIM32 feature Device Inaccessible Alarm.

However, we did neglect to create an Event on this so you would have a record of it. We have added this to the next major version based on feedback such as yours.

Re: Events missing

I hope this isn't off-topic, but,I noticed Compaq Support replying to the following: CIM32 "Device Inacessible" alarms will be included in the next revision. Does this mean that IM7 will have this functionality? We're currently using BOTH CIM 5.50 and IM 7.0 in our corporate infrastructure for monitoring servers. Since IM7 does not provide "device accessible/inaccessible" alarms like CIM 5.50 does, we're still tied to 5.50. If this feature was included in future releases of IM7, we'll shut down the CIM 5.50 console.

Thanks,
