Flood of Alerts

We are running HP Insight 7 sp2.3 and over the last 3 days are being flooded with thousands of alerts. It would appear that we are receiving alerts for all entries in the Insight_dvv32.mdb. Our problem may be that the database size is 1.9 gig. We have run a task to delete all entries in the database but this has had no affect to the size of the database. Has anyone else had this issue with alert flooding and can anyone help me with decreasing the database size. Thanks!

Re: Flood of Alerts

Hi.
Same problem here, but with SP 2.2. HP support told us to recreate all eMail tasks. Well, we prefered to configure the event queries to retain only the messages newer than 2 days. This will limit the amount of re-sent emails. But any help on this issue is welcomed.

Re: Flood of Alerts

We had this problem not too long ago, where Insight Manager would resend old events. We updated all of the servers to SSP 6.40 and the messages are no longer being sent. We found some documentation on the HP site that referenced the resending/flood of alerts.

Hope this helps!

Re: Flood of Alerts

Thanks Angela. Question though. Did you find this documentation out on the forums or elsewhere on the HP site and if so, where..Thanks again!

Re: Flood of Alerts

Hi, the only solution I found is to include into the query behind notification task the following: Inclusion-> Event(s) by time -> Event age newer than 1 day

Then you never get alarms over old events.

Re: Flood of Alerts

That's what we did but we have selected 2 days instead of one like you. But the problem reoccured. In our case, the flooding always occur just after the backup (about 0:00 am) and quite always on wednesday. Don't ask me why for the moment, I don't know. I'm currently investigating the post backup batch which is stopping and restarting IM7 and SQL to free the memory. I will let you know the result.

Re: Flood of Alerts

Hi all.
Problem solved. there was a daily task to stop and restart SQL to free memory which is constantly growing. But this task did not stop IM7 tasks before. When restarting SQL, IM7 was resending all previously sent messages.
Now the task stop im7 and sql in order then restart sql and im7. No more problems since this change.

Re: Flood of Alerts

Hi, try installing a a new server agent,

Prerequisite Notes Foundation Agents for Windows version 6.10.0.0.

Revision History Version 6.10.1.0 (Contains Bug Fixes)
Fixes
Fixed an issue where old SNMP traps could possibly be resent as new SNMP traps.

Re: Flood of Alerts

I am just after a bit more information on this thread.

Does IM only resend alerts that are still uncleared in it's database or does it send both uncleared and cleared?

The reason I ask is because of a large number of NT4 servers that we have and the last download for that OS is v5.50 which would appear to have this bug still in it.

Thanks for any information,
Andrew
