Insight Management Agent quiet install fails
We want to deploy the latest Compaq Insight Management agents (5.01) on around 70 Compaq Deskpro systems. Our current systems currently have several different versions already installed.
I read the included documentation which states that the following should work:
\\server\share\Insight_SP24815.exe -s -a -preinst -i\\server\share\SP24815_default.ini -s -SMS
In fact, when run as Administrator locally, it does install, even quietly. When executed from a batch file using Active Directory's PC startup script (which successfully executes a number of other things), the install seems to stall and does not complete. Upon startup the PC hangs for around 10 minutes (a Windows timeout?) and proceeds to the login screen without installing the agent.
I also tried without "-s -SMS -a -preinst" options, same result - it installs when logged in, but not in the startup script.
Anyone have any clues what could be wrong?

Re: Insight Management Agent quiet install fails
When running from a login script, you may need to ensure that the command completes before letting the script continue. That is, don't let it launch the app and continue with the script or the script may end and go out of scope, causing the app to lose its environment and things will get very odd at that point.
Dude, we've been totally misled by our album covers!
