Custom Lists ... Custom pages?

My manager has requested I investigate the possibility (either by built in, or add-in potential in insight manager) to implement a "laymans view" for an at-a-glance monitoring of our systems.

The idea is to put up a display in our new technology center for our School District that can exist behind our front desk, so visitors have a quick, easy, clear glance at what is going on.

ie, "201 systems healthy" "3 systems critical" [systems listed] "2 systems minor" [systems listed]

Is it possible to do this via SQL probes, XML, or any other method? even "customizing" a page to show critical, major, minor status' all on one page perhaps?

Why not just use the 'System Overview' page?

That gives you an up-to-date overall summary of the kind you seem to be looking for.

It doesn't show specific systems, and in additon, has a lot more info (or appears a lot more 'complex') than my manager is looking for.

You can do this by customizing the Banner in HPSIM. Also, if you go to the "All Systems" list you can view the summary just above the table and may be you can sort according to the HW status to get a better view.

when you say "customizing the banner" what do you mean?

'Icon View' is exactly designed for this purpose. Create a custom list of the systems you have an interest in and make it the home page. Change the view to icon view and you will have as many red/orange/green status icons as can fit and at the top of the pane is the tally of system status.

Okay, my next question with regard to that is, why do some appear as IP addresses and some appear as their DNS names? All of hte machines have DNS entries. Example:

152.157.1.3 is firfs1.puyallup.k12.wa.us
152.157.2.3 is frufs1.puyallup.k12.wa.us
152.157.72.135 is tiger.puyallup.k12.wa.us

The first entry is shown in the list as
"152.157.1.3"

The second entry is shown in the list as

"frufs1"

The third entry is shown in the list as
"tiger.puyallup.k12.wa.us"

What gives with the inconsistency? I've run "identify systems" and no beans. Is there a way to fix that without re-adding the systems (thereby losing their associated event history?)

The system lists show the name as given by the CLI command mxgethostname. If you wish to change the same, go to System Page->Links->Edit system properties page and then change the name as you wish.

Hmm.. the mxgethome ... can that be sent en-masse to modify the host name properties? I deleted and readded the systems via host file, and still no beans :(

Theres a snippet of the host file used...and strangely enough the only freaking server that shows up with a hostname is "frufs1"

(which now displays as frufs1.puyallup.k12.wa.us)

HPSIM uses DNS to do IP Address to name translation by default.

It needs to have both forward and reverse lookups to be correct.

Try using nslookup from the CMS to lookup the IP Address and then name and compare.
