Re: HPSIM5 just sits at "Checking HTTP Server Status"

Make sure that "localhost" can be resolved locally (try pinging it). Check to see if the MSSQLSVR service is running - that's what that check is doing. If its running, cycle MSDE/SQL - something is not responding.

Check Internet Explorer, can it get to localhost or is that being blocked by a firewall, or other software. I.e. do you have a proxy connection and localhost isn't in the 'No Proxy' list...

Re: HPSIM5 just sits at "Checking HTTP Server Status"

Is the HP Systems Insight Manager service actually showing running in Admin Tools/Services?

Database is MSDE on the same server as SIM

Re: HPSIM5 just sits at "Checking HTTP Server Status"

Hey Jon,
I've found that you need to assign admin rights to the domain account that your installing SIM with on the database server. At least, that's what worked for me.

Re: HPSIM5 just sits at "Checking HTTP Server Status"

already logged in as domain admin. I did some more searching on the logs and found something about not a SQL Trusted Connection.

Google search turned up a regedit to set the sql authentication to mixed.

I'm reinstalling now and hoping it will work.. If it does, I'll provide more details.

Re: HPSIM5 just sits at "Checking HTTP Server Status"

Okay, let us know. Shouldn't need that though, something is definetly hosing MSDE up. I'm assuming you are using the MSDE from the SIM 'kit' and are using the HPSIM installer to install MSDE.

Just have to ask. :)

Re: HPSIM5 just sits at "Checking HTTP Server Status"

using MSDE from the SIM kit, however I'm just browsing to the MSDE folder under database and doing an install after editing the setup.ini file to include the needed instance name and sa password.

did i do this wrong? Please assist

Re: HPSIM5 just sits at "Checking HTTP Server Status"

Ah, you can't do that. There are actually parameters passed through the SIM installer to get that installed. Need to do it that way....

Re: HPSIM5 just sits at "Checking HTTP Server Status"

which brings me to the next question of How???

Re: HPSIM5 just sits at "Checking HTTP Server Status"

Uninstall MSDE from Add/Remove Programs (shouldn't need a reboot but sometimes with Windows 2000 its needed if prompted).

Make sure there is no "Insight..." ODBC connection setup.

Run SETUP.EXE from the SIM kit. It should detect that there is no MSDE/SQL installed locally and prompt you to install MSDE in the SIM installer.

Re: HPSIM5 just sits at "Checking HTTP Server Status"

thats the problem. There are already instances of MSDE installed that i need to keep. This is the same machine that we use for our veritas that runs off of MSDE.

Re: HPSIM5 just sits at "Checking HTTP Server Status"

Okay. If you have the download kit extracted, go to the 'temp' area (dependent on your temp path) and check the HPSIMICF file directory.

There should be a MSDE.ICF file there. Open it in notepad, tweak the install setup path to add your named instance switches there, then run SIM (or just run that complete path manually).

Re: HPSIM5 just sits at "Checking HTTP Server Status"

Okay, maybe that wasn't the best suggestion. :)

How about just running this command instead (tweaking for your named instance of course):

setup.exe DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=0 REBOOT=ReallySuppress SAPWD="pwd├в INSTANCENAME="InstanceName" (you can add the SILENT switch if you want to; doesn't matter if you are manually doing it)

Re: HPSIM5 just sits at "Checking HTTP Server Status"

Are you logged in to the server as an 'administrator'? Is it local or domain?

Just to be clear, MSDE is installed okay. Then when you run the SIM installer, you get this. Right?

Re: HPSIM5 just sits at "Checking HTTP Server Status"

as far as I know it is. It goes through the entire fine, no problems. I even don't get the "Invalid Credentials" message that I used to.

I run the setup.exe install for msde using the switches you gave me. That runs and I reboot.

Than in the bottom right i have my sql service manager that comes up and I can stop, pause, and restart the service without errors.

I run the install for HP SIM and it runs through fine until it gets to Populating Database(Initializing database). It sits there for about 2 minutes than errors out and says to look at the log. When I do I see those errors I posted above.

Please assist.
