Manual Discovery with ping turned off
I've noticed that in both Insight Manager 7 and HP SIM that I'm not able to manually add devices at our other locations properly - In insight manager 7 they show up as "Legacy support using snmp" - In hp sim they show up with a red x beside "Hardware Status" and "From Ping" - the red x beside the "From Ping" leads me to believe that this is because we have ping turned off across most wan segments of our network - However, it's not a problem for the Windows based compaq insight manager 5.5 - on that version of insight manager I can manually add a device ... I know you guys are going to suggest that I turn ping on but that's not an option ... Is there some other way around this?

Re: Manual Discovery with ping turned off
How will IM keep in touch with a remote device?
The Discovery process uses Ping, but it's possible to discover devices from Events. There's an option in the Auto-Discovery section. E.g. the Remote Server has SNMP Configured to send SNMP traps to the CMS Server.
Then you'll need SNMP or HTTP to keep in touch with the devices.
You'll need at least one protocol available if you want IM to keep an eye on things.
