Missing Device Status Change Events

Does HP SIM generate device status change events when a server becomes degraded with a minor or major status? In IM7, the hardware status polling task generates an event when a server changes status, like minor or major. I have been able to generate events for system reachable and unreachable, but that's it.

Re: Missing Device Status Change Events

IM7 had device status change enabled by default. Customer feedback had us change that behavior in hpSIM.

Find the setting under Options --> Events --> Status Change Event Settings

Re: Missing Device Status Change Events

I have both checkboxes checked under Status Change Event Settings. From what I have read and seen with HP SIM, this enables the system reachable and unreachable events to be generated.

Joe,
I noticed the same issue. I've raised this issue (along with some others) with our HP Systems Engineer and he is looking for answers. When I hear back from him I'll give you an update.

Re: Missing Device Status Change Events

Hello

Status change events is generated only when a systems hardware status changes to and from a Critical state(wich mena uneachable).

Re: Missing Device Status Change Events

Hi Ivan, Thats what i think is strange. The HPSIM GUI looks link you could receive Critical,Major or minor events. But as u say only Critical will work. That will mean that i won't upgrade my HP insight Manager 7.2 SP2 to HP system Manager 4.2 because for our company it is critical to receive diverent e-mail events.

I hope HP will agree with me and wil add this feature in the next version.

Thansk Ivan for your reaction. Maybe someone else has could an work arround. As you could see in the screenshot i expect in the right upper corner to receive a major error when i disconnect the seccond (backup) network cable.

I hope someone (HP) has could a solution

Re: Missing Device Status Change Events

Hello

I try to disconnect the seccond network cable and I receive a major event.

Like I write in your thred on forum HPSIM 4.2 won't send major events:

Check your SNMP propertis. Some of our customer have the same problem. Problem was that servers dosn't have specified trap destination under SNMP propertis. Or maybe you have on the central management server under SNMP propertis selected: Accept SNMP traps from: localhost.

Check those settings

Re: Missing Device Status Change Events

Hi Ivan,

You where completely right. I added the ip-adres from the HP System Insight Manager server and disconnect the second NIC. I reveived a Major Event.

We are verry happy about this solution. Now we will get this version in produktion. Sadly we will have to add the HPSIM ip adress to all our DL360 servers. But it worked.

Thank you verry much Ivan

Kind Regards.

Re: Missing Device Status Change Events

Sander, you should be able to do all that remotely. Using the REG command from XP or 2003 or using a .reg file along with psexec from sysinternals.

Script the Reg update to add the trap destination, followed by the command to restart snmp along with all the compaq agents.

Re: Missing Device Status Change Events

Thanks Dan. I will try that next week.

HP SIM 4.2 with auto discovery works verry well.
