No login page displayed in SIM

Hello,

I just installed HP Systems Insight Manager 4.0 to a Windows 2003 Server. I configured the application and had it auto-discover the nodes I wanted to manage. When I came in this morning, the server would not detect that I had JRE installed. It just sits there and says, "Please wait. Checking for a Java Runtime Environment.".

I tried rebooting the server, uninstalling the Jave Runtime environment and letting SIM install the version it wants, and I have uninstalled and reinstalled SIM as well.

For some reason the hp insight manager server can't detect java any longer.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Re: No login page displayed in SIM

It appears that the latest Microsoft security hotfix for IE (MS04-025)breaks the Java console. I couldn't connect from my laptop this morning, or a Terminal server I use some times. Both were patched over the weekend. Hangs at "checking for a java plug-in". Tried from a system that had not been patched yet and it worked fine. Patched, rebooted and now can not get a logon screen.

Have you tried removing the IE patch?

Re: No login page displayed in SIM

There is a thread on this forum that has identified the MS patch as breaking java. Remove the patch and SIM will work again.

Re: No login page displayed in SIM

Uninstall the Microsoft IE security update KB867801 and your access to SIM should be restored.

Re: No login page displayed in SIM

That did the trick, now do we have to wait for Microsoft to fix the patch???

Re: No login page displayed in SIM

We have a computer that is having this problem as well, but I do not see the option to uninstall the hotfix under Add/Remove Programs. Do I have any other options, or is there somewhere else I should be looking for this?

Re: No login page displayed in SIM

It should be on the list as "Windows Server 2003 Hotfix KB867801". If it is not there, go to the Windows update site and look at the update history to be sure you have this patch installed.

Re: No login page displayed in SIM

You may find, as I did, that the patch had installed as something like 'IE Patch....' and was thus way up the list from all the other Windows hot fix / patches.

My apoligies; I should have specified the computer on which I am having this problem is a Windows 2000 workstation.

Re: No login page displayed in SIM

It breaks WinXP too. I took the Hotfix KB867801 out and now is working fine.

Re: No login page displayed in SIM

XP Servince Pack 2 also breaks SIM - I get the checking for java plug in and it halts.

Any ideas? - - Do i have to unstll MS security fixed to get SIM to work?

Re: No login page displayed in SIM

Our Windows Server 2003 has the hot-fix installed and SIM is still working correct.

But on our Windows XP clients with SIM, it doesnt work. Deinstalling the mentioned hotfix solves the problem, though it is not a good solution to deinstall security fixes...

Re: No login page displayed in SIM

Me too, I cannot uninstall the Hotfix on my computer.

There is no option to do so in ADD/REMOVE or an uninstall folder in the WINNT folder.

The Update was installed through SUS and it is there. Help|about in IE shows it.

HP needs to fix this ASAP because Firefox and Mozilla pretty choke most of the time when loading the HPSIM java pages.

Re: No login page displayed in SIM

Hi,

I have the same problem.
Can you verify if you have showLogonScreen on C:\Program Files\HP\Systems Insight Manager\hpwebadmin\webapps\ROOT\login.jsp
file? see if you have a call to this function on logon_onLoad().

Regards,
Carlos
