Planning to reinstall windows on server with HP SIM 4.1
Hi,
We are currently having serious issues with our Monitoring server with HP SIM 4.1 and NetIQ AppManager. We just moved AppManager to a new server and I am planning to reinstall Windows and then HP SIM, ending up at 4.2.
I need some advice on what to think about so I don't end up reconfiguring all my agents :-/
My plan is as follows,
1. Remove disks and insert new ones.
2. Smartstart 7.10 and w2k3 standard
3. Install HP SIM 4.1 (or restore??)
4. Restore HP SIM database
5. Upgrade to HP SIM 4.2
(But as always somthing will surly go wrong.)
Does this seem as an acceptable procedure?
Would appreciate any words..
Regards
Marcus

Re: Planning to reinstall windows on server with HP SIM 4.1
I just did exactly the same thing and just wiped a W2K HP Sim 4.1 server and installed a Windows 2003 server with HP SIM 4.2 from scratch. Assuming you keep the same server name and IP address no need to make any changes initially on any of your managed servers. I didn't bother restoring the old database and everything worked a dream and found V4.2 considerably more reliable than 4.1.
Only issue I had was with the Version Control Agents. Had to setup a new user with Administrator privileges on the HP SIM server and use that user to authenticate. This is documented somewhere I believe. You can set this up on one managed server then use the "Replicate Agent Settings" feature to replicate the info to your other managed servers.
If you don't desparately need your old database this could be a good approach.

Re: Planning to reinstall windows on server with HP SIM 4.1
Thanks for responding,
That sounds gr8. The only concern I have is that I have all my Automatic Event Handling Tasks and so forth, in the database, so for me to restore them is via database restore I guess (if not making screenshots)
