PSP 7.20 NIC Problem

This happened on two Servers, both W2000, both with NC 7131 NIC's
Updated with PSP and the install hung during the NIC Driver Update.
When the Server was rebooted the card had an orange alert light on.
Shutdown and cold started the Server, no luck, the NIC could not be enabled. Reloading either the new or previous NIC Driver made no difference.
Removed the card and relocated in a different PCI Slot, rebooted and the NIC became visible.

As noted, exactly the same process, on on a DL760, one on a DL580. We gave up at that point with these machines.

Re: PSP 7.20 NIC Problem

I had exactly the same problem with an nc 7131 also on a dl580, but a reboot resolved the issue, seems to be a few issues with the psp 7.20

Re: PSP 7.20 NIC Problem

Someone internally has told me we that we could ahve used Windows to delete and rediscover the device which might have saved the moving the card around part.
Interesting a reboot solved your issue. Was that also Windows 2000?

Re: PSP 7.20 NIC Problem

I had a similar problem. I lost my terminal server connection while the PSP was running and the NIC drivers got jacked up.

I had to manually de-install the NICs in Windows Add/Remove, then have windows re-PNP the system, then re-install the PSP.

Re: PSP 7.20 NIC Problem

Derek,
A PSP Update will typically update the NIC Driver so I would expect to see a TS Session end.
If you use the VCA to do the update you will also see a disconnect of that but you can usually log back in or just refresh the Log page of the VCA.

Re: PSP 7.20 NIC Problem

have had this problem again, a reboot did not resoslve the issue. but how can you delete a device that does not show in device manager?

Re: PSP 7.20 NIC Problem

Stuart,
Good point, it was mentioned after we had the issue so I've not tested the theory.
What did work for me was moving the NIC to a different PCI Slot. On the first Server I had the issue I actually moved a NIC and added a second. After the reboot both were visible.
What this triggered I've no idea, someone who understands the internals may be able to comment.

Re: PSP 7.20 NIC Problem

I just had a customer with seven DL580s NICs disabled during a PSP7.3 update.

Anybody come to any good conclusions on this?

But it's not pretty and it's not automated.
It happens with 7.30 as well.
