short name to FQD question
I have all my systems showing up as the short name, or ip in cases were DNS problems.
I want to see all the monitored devices in my tables with their FQD name.
Do I need to export them all to hosts file, then modify the file?
Or is there an easier way by changing a setting within SIM (all I saw as the system link setting which did nothing) and doing a collection, identify, or changing a setting on the monitored devices?
Thanks,
Sean

Re: short name to FQD question
HPSIM needs both forward and reverse DNS lookups to be functioning correctly.
It's not a bad idea to have your DNS consistent.

Re: short name to FQD question
But, what procedure has to be done for them to be shown as their full name in the tables?
Do I need to rediscover them all, or will they update themselves?

Re: short name to FQD question
If your DNS is correct and consistent this should work.

Re: short name to FQD question
If I click each server, it does see the DNS name on the indentity page. But still shows the preferred system name as the short name.
I am sure I am missing doing something, but it is driving me nuts as I keep looking everywhere.
And I don't have the properties locked to prevent anything from changing the name.

Re: short name to FQD question
Correct the DNS and just Re-Identify the Server, it should now show the name, or the next scheduled run of the Discovery process will update it.
You can override the name setting in HPSIM by setting the properties of the device and flagging the Discovery Process not to change the details.
