Systems and Events have dissapeared

Hi all, I have the following problem and I can't get my head around it...

I have had to move my IM server from being a member of a domain to being in a workgroup (political reasons...). After reboot etc. I can login to IM but all of my systems and events have dissapeared. However, the automatic alert forwarding is still there, and it's working fine, i.e. alerts are forwarded to me by e-mail.
Also, when I try to manually discover a server, IM tells me it's already there. However, when I search for that server name, I get an empty list.

Any help / suggestions are very welcome!

Re: Systems and Events have dissapeared

Even though your IM server isn't a member of the domain doesn't mean that a user can't run an application that requires a login that validates against the domain (e.g. I want to use that server to get to my Exchange account and I can log in to it using my domain credentials even though this server I am at isn't a member of the domain as a computer).

I think you may have confused the IM7 application. Rather than logging in as a non-domain user, see if you can log in as the domain user that originally was used when IM7 was installed, even though the computer itself is no longer a domain member.

Re: Systems and Events have dissapeared

David,

thanks for your reply. I forgot to specify correctly that this is Systems Insight Manager and not IM7.
I am aware of the possiblity of login onto a system from a non-domain location, but when trying to login to SIM using the old account (that is still present in SIM user manager) I get a failed login.
The strange thing is that the alerts are still working, I can create a new automated task and select one of my servers, but I can't see any of my systems in the overview. Or search for them, for that matter.

Any ideas?

Re: Systems and Events have dissapeared

Just to clarify, you installed and had hpSIM working using an account that was DOMAIN\USERNAME and it was working fine. You removed the machine from the domain. Now when trying to use the DOMAIN\USERNAME combination from before, you say you get "failed login" (what is the actual error message?).

The first thing that comes to mind is that for whatever reason the domain is no longer accessible. Can you try to map a share with net use and specify the /user:DOMAIN\USERNAME to verify that from the hpSIM host you can properly get to the domain?

Re: Systems and Events have dissapeared

To clarify: I had HP SIM installed and working on a Windows 2000 server in a Windows 2000 AD domain. I logged on the the HP SIM using a user from the domain. After moving the HP SIM server from the domain to a workgroup, I could no longer login with that user. Before I moved the HP SIM server from the domain to I created a local user on the HP SIM server with administrator rights. I then added that user to HP SIM. After the move I am able to login to HP SIM with this user.

In HP SIM I cannot see any of my servers or events BUT the alerts are still working and if I create a new automatic alert forwarding task, I can choose on of my servers.

I tested net use * \\server\share /user:domain\user and succesfully mapped a drive on a server in the domain. So the domain is reachable.
