Unable to register Hyper-V hosts with VMM in HPSIM
Hello
We are running HP ICE with HPSIM version 5.3 SP1 and VMM Pack v3.7. I have "Automatically discover VM guest(s) when the host is identified" turned on.
VMware ESX 3.5/4.0 hosts and the clients running on them get identified correctly, and I am able to register ESX hosts with VMM v3.7 fine.
However I am unable to do anything with MS Hyper-V hosts or clients. The hosts get identified OK as Windows Servers running Windows Server 2008, x64 Enterprise Edition Service Pack 1, but any clients running on them show up as "Unknown" system type, even if I try to run an "Identify" directly on the client. Additionally when I try to register a Hyper-V host it fails.
It goes through the tasks:
Register VM Host
Check VMM Agent Version - Windows
Copy VMM Agent - Windows
Install VMM Agent - Windows
Delete VMM Agent - WIndows
Deploy VMM Agent Certificates - Windows
and they all fail.
My understanding of VMM is that version 3.7 is supposed to be Windows Server 2008 / Hyper-V compatible, and doesn't require an agent with Hyper-V but just registers the host. However I cannot get it to do that.
We are running Hyper-V on BL495c blade hardware, fibre attached to an EVA 4400 SAN.
Can anyone help me to register and identify our Hyper-V VM environment in HPSIM?

Re: Unable to register Hyper-V hosts with VMM in HPSIM
Hi Hardy,
I feel the Hyper-V host is not discovered in HP SIM correctly.
Can you provide the credentials for WBEM under global settings and re-discover.
After doing, try to register the host machine for VMM.
They should'nt be any installation task while registering.

Re: Unable to register Hyper-V hosts with VMM in HPSIM
I have had some progress with this problem. After resolving the problem with WBEM not being recognised this also allowed the Hyper-V hosts to be recognised correctly as Hyper-V hosts and that the clients are recognised as being on that host. However this has now led to a different problem when trying to register the Hyper-V hosts.
We have 4 Hyper-V hosts running in the BL495 blades, but can only get one to register with VMM. When I try to register the other hosts it responds ├в Failed├в with the message ├в Unable to register servername. An error occurred while registering vm host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. The error message is: Unknown user name or bad password. And when checking the CMS log it shows the following:
============================================
An error occurred while registering vm host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. The error message is: Unknown user name or bad password..com.hp.mx.vmm.vmtools.grid.VmmRuntimeException: An error occurred while registering vm host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. ============================================
I don't know what user name or password is being referred to.
Appreciate any help to point me in the right direction.

Re: Unable to register Hyper-V hosts with VMM in HPSIM
Hi Hardy,
Are you specified User name and password for WBEM/Sign-in under credentials for hyper-v host for Discovery task which you have created for hosts ?
If yes, try providing the user and password under system credentials of system page or under global credentials and re-identify the system.
Once done, register the VM host. This should resolve unknown user name and password failure..
