Uninstall Version Control Agent

Hi all,

I have 2 servers that are logging errors for the Version Control agent and not working. I have tried to install updated version over top but it still reports the errors and will not work.

Is there a way to uninstall the version control agent completely and re-install it to see if that will fix the error?

Thanx,
Chad

Re: Uninstall Version Control Agent

Have you rebooted since you did the update, typically updating the VCA requires a Server reboot.

Hello

Go to the Control Panel/ Add or Remove programs and remove Version Control Agent.

Re: Uninstall Version Control Agent

Yes I did reboot the system after the upgrade but it did not change anything. The system still was not working.

Besides the uninstall in the add/remove programs is there any configuration or left over files one should delete before installing the agents again?

Thanx, for the answer folks

Re: Uninstall Version Control Agent

Well, the VCA normally takes its cues from the Foundation Agents, and will generally use it for the authentication portion, so if you re-install the agent, be sure not to update the security; you should just let it inherit from the Foundation Agents.

Now if you are haveing problems getting into the management home page in general, you might just want to re-install the whole support pack and maybe consider using the latest one (currently 7.1, which I have also not bean hearing bad things about).

If you decide to completely uninstall and re-install, after you uninstall, remember to delete the compaq directory. It may have corrupt config files.

Other than that you should be ok.

Re: Uninstall Version Control Agent

Okay the unitlstall reinstall did not fix the issue.

Here is the problem. The version control agent is not working. It reports "Not enough storage is available to proccess the command" in it's log file. The systemhas ample space avaiable on the hard drives and in memeory. So I am not sure what it is complaining about.

I have tried reloading the agent over top. Did not work. I tried removing the agent and the foundation agents. Then reinstalling. It did not work.

Has anyone else run into this or have an idea how I can fix it? I have several servers running fine .... I don't understand why this one is causing sooooo much grief.

Any help would be greatly welcome.

Thanx to those who have replied to date.

Re: Uninstall Version Control Agent

The "Not enough storage..." error message happens when the VCA tries to write information and it is blocked. It spuriously assumes that there's not enough storage.

The most common resolution to this symptom has to do with SNMP sets and write community strings. The agents communicate among themselves using SNMP so you MUST have a READ-WRITE string named in the SNMP service. This can be different from the read string that hpSIM uses. Configured this way your string will only be used internally and never cross the wire.

Additionally, the agents have a setting to "Enable SNMP sets" that is set within the Insight agents settings tab or in the Control Panel applet.

Re: Uninstall Version Control Agent

Thanx,

It was the SNMP settings. Upon closer examination I noticed I had removed the ability for the server to accept SNMP from it's self.

Thanx again for the help!!
