sizing based on smart array controllers and drives
Hi,
what tool can we use to get a raw indication of performance (IOPS,throughput and response time), when we want to configure a proliant server with a megaraid controller and a bunch of drives ?
A tool like HPE Ninja Online for MSA would be nice.
Performance metrics are listed in some quickspecs, however cache on a raid controller should improve these numbers. Only thing is that nowhere is noted what performance improvement can be expected.

Re: Query: sizing based on smart array controllers and drives
Absolutely good information, however we are looking to some sizing guidelines within a tool. Within the HPE Hard Disk Drives QuickSpecs you can find some drive characteristics. It would be great to combine these performance metrics with the corresponding raid controller, and impact on total IOPS and throughput.

Re: sizing based on smart array controllers and drives
One tool that can be used to get a raw indication of performance for a ProLiant server with a MegaRAID controller and drives is the MegaRAID Storage Manager software. This software provides information on IOPS, throughput, and response time, as well as other metrics related to RAID arrays, physical drives, and logical volumes. It can also be used to configure RAID arrays, create and manage virtual drives, and monitor the health of the storage system. In addition to MegaRAID Storage Manager, there are other third-party tools that can be used to monitor and measure storage performance, such as Iometer and CrystalDiskMark. These tools allow you to simulate workloads and measure performance under different scenarios, providing valuable information for tuning and optimizing your storage system.

Re: sizing based on smart array controllers and drives
Thanks for you information regarding the MegaRaid tooling. I was more aiming at tooling to simulate (modelling) a certain disk configuration with a specific RAID controller configuration from the HPE portfolio.

Hello,
HPE does not have any such official Tool.
Please find below Megaraid Controller links for reference
