Smart Array P410 - Replace Drives With Bigger Ones in RAID 1

Hello,

I want to increase the size of my RAID 1 storage on the following server:

  • HP ProLiantSE316M1R2
  • Smart Array P410
  • Windows Server 2019

I already replaced each disk (total of 2) one by one.

Old: 2x 240GB SSD

New: 2x 500GB SSD

But when following this manual:

Document - Smart Storage Administrator - How to Expand an Array and Extend the Logical Drive | HPE Support

I do not see the "Manage Data Drives" option. I already confirmed that my controller has a cache and backup battery. Is there anything I can do?

Thanks

Thanks for your suggestion.

After checking via ADU, the installed firmware is 6.63 and the rebuild counter is at  1 (0x0001).

At this point I'm thinking about creating a second array, cloning the files over and setting the new array as boot drive. Would that be possible?

Hello,

if you change the disks size, the array will not expand automatically.

for example as you have replaced one 240 GB drive with a 500GB, the available space will only be 240 GB.

Even after rebuilding, you add another 500 GB drive, the logical drive size will still be 240GB as configured earlier.

In this case, you need to take a complete backup and recreate the array with the new drives.

Thanks,

TAM
