Achieve a cloud operating experience for your HPE OneView environment

Everyone faces a multitude of IT challenges – especially when it comes to the complexity of the IT landscape – and those challenges drive us to innovate. This makes it more important than ever to remember that as your business and organization grows, so does the complexity of your infrastructure. The wisest move forward is to ensure that your infrastructure is simple to operate and simple to manage.

Compute-Ops-Management-OneView-Edition_blog_GettyImages-804747028_800_0_72_RGB.jpgCurrently, 93% of HPE Compute customers operate within a distributed environment1, so we are familiar with your challenges and understand your struggles. We know that you can’t deal with the distributed compute landscape that you now live with by continuing to utilize old approaches, such as legacy tolls and methods. You need to have global visibility into your infrastructure, coupled with the simplicity of automation, and the ability to manage that infrastructure from anywhere. The best way to be successful in achieving your goals is through a cloud-based management experience that lets you work in concert with the speed of your business and demands of your customers.

Migration to the edge

As environments continue to grow, more and more servers are moving out of traditional data centers and into edge locations. And as that distribution happens, our HPE OneView customers face multiple complexity challenges that have prompted you to ask if HPE GreenLake for Compute Ops Management, with its intuitive cloud operating experience, can be brought to HPE Synergy and other environments running HPE OneView.

HPE is committed to continue to innovate for a modern cloud experience, and because of that commitment, we are announcing advancements for customers who have standardized on HPE OneView for management of HPE Synergy. This also extends to broader on-premises infrastructure management for compute, storage, and networking.

Our newly announced service, HPE GreenLake for Compute Ops Management – OneView Edition, allows you to explore the cloud experience for HPE OneView instances from within the HPE GreenLake cloud platform. This add-on subscription service aggregates connections to locations running HPE OneView and provides you with a centralized, cloud-based console for multi-site management support. In addition, enhanced appliance configuration ensures consistency in reporting, analytics, and support automation.

This new cloud-based service is an add-on to OneView, designed to help you see and manage multiple OneView instances wherever they're located – whether it's in the same datacenter, across remote datacenters, or from remote or edge sites – with a single login from your centralized console.

How to think about Compute Ops Management - OneView Edition

  • It's a cloud-based control point that connects our HPE Synergy and HPE OneView customers to the HPE GreenLake platform, giving you a cohesive experience for managing both HPE Synergy and HPE ProLiant servers.
  • This is engineered as a result of OneView customers – like you – telling us that server and system management had become increasingly complicated as their number of OneView instances grew.
  • Best of all, this isn’t some new application that joins a portfolio of our applications. This has been designed as an integration into the HPE GreenLake for Compute Ops Management application.

How it works

When you activate your subscription, Compute Ops Management - OneView Edition will be visible within the Compute Ops Management app on the HPE GreenLake platform. This enables you to manage both server devices and HPE OneView appliances from within a common, cloud-based app.

Once set up, the inventory tab and the OneView appliance card will be visible. From the Compute Ops Management dashboard, you’ll be able to see the status of your appliances from the OneView appliance card.

Current features include:

  • Appliance Settings Template and Applied Settings Template. Create templates for a collection of settings such as the security authentication settings, Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) trap destinations, and Network Time Protocol (NTP) server information. An appliance settings template can be created from an onboarded OneView appliance. This in turn can be applied to other OneView appliances.
  • Compliance Status of Appliances. This feature verifies whether settings match the settings on the OneView appliance, and are the same as the settings in the Appliance Settings Template configuration.
  • Oversight of the entire server hardware inventory. This attribute gives you visibility over all inventory available on the OneView appliance, including health and connection status of your servers. Your entire server inventory – down to the component level – is visible, as well as alerts that are raised on individual or multiple servers.

Keep in mind, since this is a cloud-based app, enhancements and new features will continue to be developed and delivered over time. These new items will show up in the announcements tab located in the application’s menu bar.
