If you’re not using Compute Ops Management yet, you are missing out!
Adopting Compute Ops Management will deliver greater innovation speed, simplified management of your distributed environments, and increased operational efficiency of compute devices. It's a game-changer for streamlined server management that helps you unlock the full potential of your server infrastructure.
It’s been a year since we officially launched HPE GreenLake for Compute Ops Management, our cloud-based management solution. Over the year, we’ve made great strides with feature development and customer adoption. Moving forward, HPE servers will be managed by this intuitive cloud operating experience as it allows greater speed of innovation and enablement of managing distributed environments with ease.
Because this is a software as a service (SaaS) solution, every week new updates and features are pushed live. Those with a Compute Ops Management subscription are “in the know” with the convenient Announcements tab in the top menu of the application. If you haven’t adopted Compute Ops Management yet, here are a few of the key features that we’ve launched so far this year.
Simplify server deployment
When dealing with distributed environments, the process of handling initial lifecycle tasks can be simplified through using the OS image deployment feature. This involves deploying a customized .ISO image, created by the customer, onto servers that belong to a specific server group. For the initial release of this feature, VMware ESXi and Microsoft Windows are supported. Two ways to use:
- Apply an OS image to a server group by selecting Actions > Install operating system image.
- Enable an automatic OS installation policy when you configure a server group.
Extend your view into sustainability metrics
We have enhanced the carbon footprint reports with an Aggregate by menu that allows you to view data by server model, generation, or processor vendor to help pinpoint what is producing the reported emissions. Also, when you export the report, you now have a choice between CSV and JSON format.
Automated HPE support case creation
For automation of critical alerts and component replacement, we have enabled auto case creation. Critical issues within the server hardware trigger automated support case creation for hardware failures and sends a support request to HPE Services to order and replace the failing part. The automatic support case creation feature enables faster resolution of critical issues and reduces the risk of unplanned outages. When automatic support case creation is configured and a supported service event occurs on a managed server, an HPE support case is created in the HPE Support Center.
The steps for configuring servers for automatic support case creation are performed in the HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud platform. You must first create locations in the HPE GreenLake platform, and then associate a location and a service delivery contact with each server. You can perform this step when you first add a server or later by performing an action in HPE GreenLake.
The outcome of a support case will include contact with a Technical Support agent, when necessary, receiving replacement parts, or an HPE Support Technician visit. The outcome varies depending on the critical issue that occurred.
New API integrations in the management ecosystem
Compute Ops Management offers auto case creation coordination through API integration with ServiceNow. This enables automatic creation of a ServiceNow incident and helps to consolidate tracking of service-related issues. The incident listing is triggered when iLO notifies Compute Ops Management that a hardware-related service event has occurred.
Another API integration is with VMware vCenter which allows customers to view SPP and patch information and update a server’s firmware from within the vCenter console. HPE GreenLake for Compute Ops Management plug-in for VMware vCenter is a firmware management solution that is managed as a plug-in in the vCenter Server environment. By integrating with the VMware vSphere Lifecycle Manager (vLCM), Compute Ops Management provides a centralized cloud experience for the seamless update of firmware and drivers on HPE ProLiant servers.
The VMware vCenter plug-in is available to download from the My HPE Software Center website.
Security enhancements
Scope-based Access Control allows admins to set granular access levels to users of compute devices. In addition, with the use of Resource Restriction Policies (RRPs) they can grant or deny access to resources across Compute Ops Management by providing server-specific roles to users. This helps to prevent users from monopolizing system resources. In addition, groups of server devices can be assigned RRPs for access.

Simplifying management window screens
We have incorporated remote connection into the server’s iLO console. This gives customers the ability to launch the iLO HTML5 remote console with a secure connection from within Compute Ops Management as they are viewing the health status and activity of the server.

Supported compute platforms continue to expand! Support now includes HPE ProLiant Gen10, 10+, Gen 11; HPE Alletra 4000 storage systems (formerly Apollo 4000); and HPE Edgeline e920 series server blades connected to HPE Edgeline EL8000 Converged Edge Systems.
