From pervasive AI to automated COM: How compute is powering the future of the hybrid era

If you wanted to be the first to hear about HPE's end-to-end vision for AI, the place to be this summer was Las Vegas, Nevada for HPE Discover 2023. But if you didn’t have the opportunity to attend, or you’re catching up on what you missed, or are just looking to rewatch content you already enjoyed, read on to learn more.

Changing the AI conversation from “how to” to “how fast”

In June, HPE announced ten new HPE GreenLake offerings and the HPE Compute team offered up specially curated Compute content, designed to help you learn how to fast-forward your data-first modernization.

The big news was centered around our launch of three new artificial intelligence (AI) inferencing solutions, and discussions about the leadership role that HPE will play in the industry as the capabilities of AI technology evolves.

We have reached a generational market shift in AI that will be as transformational as the web, mobile, and cloud,” said Antonio Neri, President and CEO, at HPE. “HPE is making AI, once the domain of well-funded government labs and the global cloud giants, accessible to all.

Antonio.pngTo gain a better understanding of this vision, don’t miss watching HPE President and CEO, Antonio Neri on the HPE Discover More Network, as he delivers his sixth (!) HPE Discover Keynote. He spends time recapping our as-a-service trajectory and introduces HPE’s technology agenda for the coming year, which is centered around our exciting new AI offerings. He also talks about how HPE can help you connect, protect, analyze, and act on all your data – from edge to cloud – so you can leverage AI to create competitive advantage for your business.

An end-to-end vision for AI

So – what, exactly, is all the buzz about?

  • New AI cloud portfolio! HPE GreenLake for Large Language Models combines HPE’s AI software with HPE’s market-leading supercomputers to enable enterprises to train and tune large-scale AI models on demand. HPE GreenLake for Large Language Models is designed to run a single, large-scale AI training and simulation at full computing capacity. This capability is more effective, reliable, and efficient to train AI and create more accurate models, allowing enterprises to solve complex problems faster.
  • New AI inferencing solutions are built on HPE’s new ProLiant Gen11 systems and integrate NVIDIA accelerated computing. HPE ProLiant Gen11 servers are designed from the ground up to support advanced accelerators, and these new AI solutions boost inference performance 5X[i] more effectively than previous generations.
  • New ultra-scalable HPE ProLiant DL380a Gen11, together with NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPUs and the full suite of NVIDIA AI Enterprise software including NVIDIA Riva, comprise a powerful AI platform. This powerhouse server drives enterprise implementations in AI natural language processing and inferencing applications like speech AI and fraud detection, as well as Computer Vision, AI at the edge, and generative visual AI.

But AI Solutions from HPE extend beyond Compute.

HPE Compute News, Summer 2023

Compute engineered for your hybrid world: Confidently power your data-first business, delivered by Neil MacDonald, Executive Vice President and General Manager, HPE Compute.

Neil reflects on HPE’s longstanding, relentless commitment to innovation that manifests itself in products like the HPE ProLiant Gen11 family of servers. These powerhouse servers deliver an intuitive cloud operating experience, trusted security by design, and optimized performance for your diverse workloads. Some models are also specifically engineered to drive enterprise implementations in Computer Vision AI, AI natural language processing and inferencing applications like speech AI and fraud detection.

Neil is joined on-stage by Matt Haines, Vice-President and General Manager of HPE Compute Cloud Services, who talks about progress made this year in successfully delivering the HPE GreenLake for Compute Ops Management to customers around the world.

One such customer, introduced to session attendees by Matt, is Malcolm Trevino, who is the Senior Infrastructure Manager for Kimley Horn, a large consulting firm with 120 locations across the United States.

Malcolm describes the challenges of managing an IT environment across such a large, distributed footprint, including apps deployment and maintenance windows. “COM (Compute Ops Management) takes the guesswork out of all of this. You just select a server, hit update, and it automatically detects what you need and downloads it for you.”

Matt also introduced new Compute Ops Management features, as well as HPE GreenLake for Compute Ops Management – OneView Edition.

Next up is the dynamic Krista Satterthwaite, HPE Senior Vice President of Mainstream Compute, who talks about HPE 's trusted security by design. “Whether you’re a security expert or not – you are probably very happy to be partnering with someone who is thinking about security every day and trying to raise the bar – All. The. Time.”

Moorehead_Zero-trust White Paper.jpgShe introduces Patrick Moorhead, Founder, CEO and Analyst for Moor Insights and Strategy. An acknowledged industry expert for over 30 years, Patrick played a key role in the introduction of the silicon root of trust which was launched at HPE Discover six years ago. Krista and Patrick discuss the critical nature of a holistic security approach – an energetic and engaging discussion, I might add.

You can find many of the topics included in their discussion in this new paper from Moor Insights and Strategy. Simply scan the code for your free download.

Following Krista is the energetic Phil Cutrone. Phil is the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Worldwide OEMs, Service Providers and Major Accounts. He talks with customers – from multiple industries and all walks of life, from every corner of the globe – about the challenges they have in managing successful businesses. Of course, IT can address many of those challenges, and Phil is always ready to discuss how compute engineered for your hybrid world can make a difference in their worlds.

He is joined by two customers, John Lukas, CIO and Vice President of RaceTrac, and Domenick DeGravio, Head of Engineering for Freddie Mac IT Platforms and Infrastructure, who share their unique perspectives on the daily travails of working in an IT environment that spans from the data center to the edge to the cloud.

Neil MacDonald returns to the stage to wrap-up with a reminder about the benefits of working with HPE Financial Services to create innovative, sustainable IT asset management strategies. "HPE Financial Services can help you unlock the value of your existing IT infrastructure so you can re-invest in the technology that will help you get to the next level of business success."

Another not-to-miss highlight you can catch on the Discover More channel is HPE SVP, Krista Satterthwaite, as she discusses why compute innovation is the lifeline to today’s business growth. Her HPE Discover 23 interview for theCube, was conducted by Dave Vallente of SiliconANGLE, and covers the new era of compute innovation – and how that innovation is the bedrock for products like the HPE ProLiant Gen 11 family of servers.

Another interview from theCube that you don’t want to miss is the discussion Phil Cutrone had with Intel’s Janet George, who is Vice President and General Manager for Datacenter, AI and Enterprise Cloud Security. Their conversation centers around how you can win the race to the Edge and how companies see the benefits of moving data closer to where decisions are made.

Looking forward

We have reached a generational market shift in AI that will be as transformational as the web, mobile, and cloud,” said Antonio Neri. “Now, organizations can embrace AI to drive innovation, disrupt markets, and achieve breakthroughs…

So – if you were lucky enough to be an actual participant at HPE Discover 2023, or just want to find out what all the buzz is about – take advantage of all of the information and exciting sessions that are available on the Discover More Network.
