Firmware Downgrade

I am having no luck with this drive and Netware 6, HP cannot find the H107 file to enable a downgrade. Even if I had the file the L&TT software reports an I/O error, it can see the robot but not the drive. Any help would be appreciated before this drive gets launched!!

Many thanks in hopeful anticipation

Re: Firmware Downgrade

Hi Angela,

Can you tell us which drive you have please? Also, when you say "HP cannot find H107 file" do you mean HP support personnel cannot find it for you or that LTT cannot find the correct firmware file for you when you do a web search using LTT?

Cheers

Re: Firmware Downgrade

I have managed to get the LTT software to recognise the drive by changing the scsi card and cable, however, Backup Exec still returns an error 1050 (on Netware 6). I have read in another thread that someone else managed to get it to work by downgrading the firmware to H107, HP are saying they do not have this version of firmware as it is OEM.

Re: Firmware Downgrade

Hi,

Ok, you still haven't told me what product you have, but I think I have worked it out using LTT, from your reference to H107 firmware. You have a C5713A DDS4 autoloader I believe.

Comments below apply to Windows version of LTT, but should be broadly similar to Netware version.

I can see H107 firmware using LTT, when I select "show all firmware for all supported devices option" using the "get firmware from web" option in LTT.

You should be able to download H107 using LTT if you want. To downgrade your device you will need to ask HP supprot for a temporary LTT password. This will activate the options button on the update firmware part of LTT and in there is a tickbox to allow firmware downgrade.

I have no idea whether downgrading to H107 from I am guessing H312 will fix you issue, as I am still not sure what you original issue is :)

Re: Firmware Downgrade

Sorry, I should have continued on an existing thread, the H107 firmware solves all my problems.

Thanks anyway, it is nice to know someone is trying to help as HP are hopeless.

Re: Firmware Downgrade

I found the resolution to my problem under the forums, both the fact that BackupExec needed H107 firmware to load successfully on a Netware 6 Server running BackupExec 9.1, also the firmware changed from allowing numerous commands to be received on Lun 1. The HP support were not aware of any issues regarding firmware and so after a very frustrating couple of weeks managed to find the H107 version. We have now downgraded the firmware of the original drive and backups are working, the problem I am faced with now is that if I buy 15 of these units to roll around the UK, and more potentially for the International business, they will have to come here first to be downgraded, for which I have to request a password each time. Nightmare!

I would appear to be up and working, but unfortunately I cannot attribute the resolution to the endeavours of HP.

Angela,

Post your email address and I'll contact you for some more specifics. It looks like something we may need to take a look at.

Re: Firmware Downgrade

We think this issue can be fixed with a newer novell driver (attached):

Find the AD_ASPI.NLM driver at SYS:\BKUPEXEC\NLMS\ad_adpi.nlm
Rename AD_ASPI.NLM to AD_ASPI.OLD
Copy the new version of AD_ASPI.NLM to the SYS:\BKUPEXEC\NLMS\ folder
Reboot the server
Run BESTART if the system does not automatically do so
