MSl6480

Hi guys,

i am using msl 6480 with expansion and connected it through FC switches(2) to a physical HP Server. i am seeing multipli libraries under medium changer in device manager . i have already installed mpio feature. my question is that , is it ok to see multiple libraries iunder medium changer , when we have only 1 tape library with expansions, or something is not right?

regards,

LB.

You can verify you're using the correct drivers and firmware for the MSL 6480 library and its expansions. And Double-check if the libraries are being detected and displayed correctly in Device Manager

yes,  i have already confirmed that. all the required fw and drivers are installed. i dont think its a driver issue.

@ledvan

Good day!

Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

>> Ensure that the physical connections between the tape library and the server are secure and properly configured. Also, verify that the Fibre Channel (FC) switches are configured correctly.

>>In Device Manager, right-click on each of the multiple entries under the "Medium Changer" section, and choose "Properties." Look for any distinguishing information that might help you identify whether these entries are related to the same physical tape library or if they are actually different devices.

>> Make sure you have the latest drivers and firmware installed for your MSL 6480 and the FC switches. Outdated drivers or firmware can sometimes lead to unexpected behavior.

>> Since you've mentioned that you've installed MPIO (Multi-Path Input/Output) feature, ensure that the MPIO configuration is correctly set up to manage multiple paths to the tape library. Incorrect MPIO settings can sometimes lead to duplicate entries.

>> Most tape libraries come with a management or configuration utility provided by the manufacturer. Use this utility to verify the configuration of the tape library, including any expansions, and ensure that they are recognized correctly.

I hope this helps! let me know...

These are my opinions so use it at your own risk.

This is not most libraries, this is msl 6480 with lto 9 drives, the drivers are uptodate, fw as well. As far as i know tgere is no specific configuration that needs to be done for mpio? Am i missing something?

@ledvan

Greetings...!!

The multiple entries in Device Manager is quiet normal and have seen this issue when MPIO is enabled. If you want to test, disable MPIO. Delete the entries from DM and scan for hardware changes. You might not find multiple entries, Also try creating a single partition with all the drives and robot in it and test by zoning to the host again.

Hope this helps.
