Netware server backup with HP data Express Pro software anf HP DAT USB 72Gb drive
We have 18 HPDL 380 servers with HP DAT USB 72 Gb drives and HP Data Express Pro Single Server Edition and are trying to backup to backup Netware 6.5 servers.
Now on the HP USB tape drive compatibility matrix Netware 6.5 is not supported.
So we are trying to backup over the Network via a Windows Workstation. We connected the HP USB drive to the workstation installed Data express for Windows ,the Netware component on the server, run dpagent on the Netware server and are trying to backup from the Win Workstation
Unfortunately when we backup the we can select The Netware server ,files and NDS but the server is reported as offline and backup stops.
What do you think is the pbm?
What do you recommend for this scenario.
Is there any way of connecting the USB to the server and backing up.

Re: Netware server backup with HP data Express Pro software anf HP DAT USB 72Gb drive
The version of Data Protector Express that you are running (Single Server Edition) will only back up a local machine to a locally attached tape drive. It will not backl up one machine to another. That is why you see the server as offline on the Data Protector Express user interface.
You would need to upgrade to the full network-capable version of Data Protector Express plus purchase a network client license for each of the servers you want to backup over the network.
Are all of the servers in the same location and are all running NetWare?

Re: Netware server backup with HP data Express Pro software anf HP DAT USB 72Gb drive
Thanks for the information.
The Netware servers will be in five different locations. We should have 18 licenses but we only want to use 5 for Netware. So can we ask for instance instead of having 18 single Server license like
5 units dual and the remaining single.
We dont need all 18 in single Server licensing mode.
Thanks

Re: Netware server backup with HP data Express Pro software anf HP DAT USB 72Gb drive
You would have to upgrade the licenses to the full network capable product. You could possibly purchase 1 upgrade product (BB117ET) plus 4 media server licenses (1 -BB119AA and 1 - BB120AA 3 pack) as long as there is network connectivity between the 5 sites with Netware servers.
You sould probably talk to your local HP reseller for help with architecting the most cost effective solution.
