ML 350 G3 Windows 2K3 Install on SAN

I have an ML 350 G3 with a qlogic 2340 connected to a Xiotech SAN. I have installed Windows 2003 Server, but 9 times out of 10 this server will NOT boot normally. It hangs on the loading Windows screen with the dots going across. This server will boot into safe mode w/networking every time. I've upped the bios to the latest version, I've put the latest support paq on, but still no luck. The qlogic is up to Xiotech suggested specs. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Re: ML 350 G3 Windows 2K3 Install on SAN

Tony,

This can be a driver issue. Check out the boot log file 'Ntbtlog.txt' for drivers not loaded during the startup.

Refer to this MSKB for more info on how to troubleshoot startup problems in Windows 2003:

Did you update the qlogic 2340 driver?

Re: ML 350 G3 Windows 2K3 Install on SAN

I've tried disabling the NIC in bios. When I do that, the server won't even run through the memory test. It just beeps and sits there with a black screen. I don't believe that to be normal... is it??

Tony,

How many beeps and is it long or short beeps?

Refer here for troubleshooting your server model:

Depending on your BIOS type, here is a list of the beep codes:

However, it maybe the design of your model or perhaps you disabled something else.

Just a thought

Re: ML 350 G3 Windows 2K3 Install on SAN

Hi,

The LUN which is used for installing the Win2k3 must not be exposed to any other devices in the SAN environment. if at all it is exposed it should not be used as a boot disk by any other server.

You may also have to specify a particular LUN ID since it is a BOOT lun.

Thanks
