Why sell the HPE Windows Server Reseller Option Kit (ROK)?
When a customer purchases a new HPE ProLiant server, they have a few options for purchasing Windows Server® 2019 licensing. These include:
- HPE OEM factory installation option (FIO) licenses, which are preinstalled on the servers at the HPE factory. They can be purchased from HPE online stores, via Channel Partners, and through direct sales teams.
- HPE OEM FIO non-preinstalled (FIO Npi) licenses, also called “drop-in-box” licenses, are available from HPE online stores and via Channel Partners for customers choosing do-it-yourself operating system (OS) installations.
- HPE Reseller Option Kit (ROK) is a software distribution model designed for value-added resellers (VARs). ROKs are available only from HPE authorized distributors. Resellers can then offer HPE ROK licenses in combination with HPE server systems to their business customers.
Naturally, customers and Partners often have questions about which licensing model is best. The simple answer is that HPE ROK is the same Windows Server operating system (OS) available for purchase from Microsoft®, but with several added benefits that make it a better value. These include:
- This more cost-effective option is typically less expensive than purchasing the server and OS licenses separately.
- The peace of mind that the Windows Server 2019 OS and drivers have been tested and certified specifically for HPE ProLiant servers.
- Windows Server 2019 HPE ROK licenses are BIOS-locked, so they can only be installed on HPE servers.
- The wizard-based HPE Rapid Setup, which is part of HPE Intelligent Provisioning, is embedded in HPE ProLiant Gen10 servers. It provides a simple, guided process for installing Windows Server 2019 that takes less time and reduces the chance for errors.
- VARs can add server options, installation, and configuration services to ensure customers are getting the most suitable IT solution with the convenience of one-source shopping and support.
It’s easy and convenient for VARs to stock, sell, and install Windows Server 2019 in the same manner as any other HPE server option. Plus, ROK is the fastest and easiest way to purchase a server and OS with no Microsoft licensing forms or download websites required.
In short, HPE recommends ROK licenses because they make it fast and easy for you to sell Windows Server 2019 licenses for new HPE ProLiant Gen10 servers with value pricing, flexible choices, one-stop ordering, and single-source support to help customers be more productive, achieve more with their investment, and keep their businesses running smoothly.
