Re-using old 3par in test environment
Guys,
I have a 3par where its support is about to run out, and the cost for support on these is massive, so we don't plan on renewing it. So we want to use this 3par in our test environment.
Currently i have a 8440 which is loaded with 8tb and 4tb SSD's But it was a 4 node system, but currently it has 2 nodes failed, 1 in each pair
i also have a 8200 which is a 2 node system but with a mixture of disk types.
what i'd like to do is just use the 8200 main unit (no additional shelves) and load it up with the 8TB ssd's from the 8440.
Can i do that, and try a new initization on that array so it think its just a 2node 1 shelf system?
Is there anything i should be aware of, or can i literally just connect that up to the SP and start fresh?
do i need to apply new licenses?

Re: Re-using old 3par in test environment
Hi Ian,
If you do not want a maintenance contract, HPE also offers one time repair and you can avail the service (pay for any material used or/and man hours) to get your issues resolved and system(s) running.
You cannot simply use the PDs of another array in 8200.

Re: Query: Re-using old 3par in test environment
i understand you can pay ad-=hoc for things to be done, but thats not something we want to be using..
i will check compatibility of the SSD disks in to the 8200 if needed
I was more under whats the correct way of re-purposing this kit, i.e. can i just connect it to the SP, and when i add the array just select new iniilzation, and will it ask me the details, i..e system name, ip, dns etc and then redo all the disks so it creates new CPG's etc

Re: Query: Re-using old 3par in test environment
Hi Ian_C,
You need to perform a wipe/back-in-the-box process for the system you want to use and then add the PDs from the other array here and perform re-initialisatio (out-of-the-box). You need to login with console password for getting these menus for these operations.
Please refer 3Par system wipe - Hewlett Packard Enterprise Community
