4 challenges transportation OEMs need to prepare for
With the transport industry facing multiple challenges and transformative disruptions, OEMs in this sector are at a crossroads. Transportation & logistics companies are under constant pressure to find innovative ways to optimize their operations in today's customer-centric, digitized society. Both individuals and businesses are expecting to get their orders faster, more flexible, and with more transparency, all at low or no delivery cost. However, simple logistics methods and transportation tools & algorithms are no longer enough to advance their offering and deliver faster than the competition. Here are some challenges transportation OEMs need to prepare for:
- Demand for digital services: Consumers are demanding connected vehicles and more reliable deliveries faster and at lower prices. Not only do OEMs need to integrate digital services into their vehicles at a mass-market price, but they also need new technologies to increase the traceability and predictability of their distribution networks.
- Need for big data analytics: The โAmazon effectโ is transforming consumersโ shopping preferences, and logistics companies are looking to run big data analytics in real-time to optimize their supply chains. Transportation OEMs need to offer edge-ready technologies that enable instant, automated decision making and free up their customersโ time to focus on innovation.
- Rise of autonomous vehicles: Autonomous cars will only have milliseconds to react to events such as a pedestrian stepping out into the road. Sending data back to the data center to be analyzed is no longer an option. OEMs have the opportunity to offer transformative edge-powered solutions that process data instantly without latency.
- Stringent regulatory standards: Stricter environmental regulations are mandating fuel efficiency and lower emissions. This means that OEMs need to create innovative solutions that can monitor and address inefficiencies in transportation companiesโ supply chain and logistics networks.
