Creating Ignite tapes to a remote tape drive?

How would one go about creating an Ignite tape, to a remote tape drive. Obviously this raises some problems when restoring, but if I need to, the other department's tape drive (i.e. my remote tape drive) will need to be moved over to my box.

Hints, tips and traps please.
TIA

Re: Creating Ignite tapes to a remote tape drive?

YOU CAN NOT DO THAT AT ALL.
IT IS NOT POSSIBLE WITH IGNITE-UX , IT IS THE LIMITATION OF IGNITE-UX SOFTWARE. YOU CAN BUILD MAKE_NET_RECOVERY AND KEEP A COPY OF IGNITE IMAGE OF A REAUIRED SERVER ON IGNITE-UX SERVER..AND YOU CAN USE IT FOR RESTORE WHEN NEEDED.

Re: Creating Ignite tapes to a remote tape drive?

Hi Jordan,

don't worry too much, there is a chance:
if you create a "golden Image" over the network to your Ignite/UX server (no tapes involved at all), you can use the Ignite/UX tools to create the bootable "header" for a tape on that server as a file, copy the two files (header, image) to the *other* station and "dd" them to the *non-rewinding* tape.
Read the Ignite/UX documentation about "creating your own media", it tells you almost everything you need...

Jordan,

As you can see, this is a question generating some very different answers. There are probably 3 seminars being given next week at HPWorld which might address your question. In particular, Kellah Berube's (HP-ASE) seminar on IGNITE may be of help to you.

HPWorld is next week in Los Angeles, CA. I would recommend going. Wishing I could go.. :-(
