HP 3700DN configuration on HP-UX

I need some information how to configure HP Colorjet 3700DN as a network printer on HP-UX 10.20.

I tried to get some information on Internet without success. I know that it's possible to do with a utility called SAM and manually.

If someone could tell me or give me some information on both of the method it would be great.
Thanks!

Re: HP 3700DN configuration on HP-UX

Manually: addqueue -h $IP -q $PRNTR -b off
(where $IP is the ip address of the printer and $PRNTR is the name of the printer).

Via SAM: select Printers and Plotters; select LP Spooler; select Printers and Plotters; click on Actions and select Add Network Based Printer/Plotter; fill in the blanks.

Re: HP 3700DN configuration on HP-UX

Hi,
thanks for fast and great answer
:-)

But I still get an error message:
"The HP JetDirect printer software is not installed on your system (neither the command
"/usr/lib/admin/jetadmin" not the command "/usr/lib/hpnp/admin/hpnpcfg" exist""

Where can I get the software?

Thanks!

Pete,

Thanks again!

Last question:
My computer can't find addqueue. Is it a part of standard software, or must I install some extra software to execute the command?

The addqueue command is part of HP Printer Installer (HPPI). Once you download and install HPPI, you should have the addqueue command.

Re: HP 3700DN configuration on HP-UX

Thanks
I'm sorry for all the questions, but

1) Is it not possible to install a network printer without these software package?

2) If the answer is yes, is it then possible to install these software package to a usb memory with use of windows 2000, and then transport it to a HP-UX system.

The HP-UX system is not connected to Internet. That's the reason for all odd questions.

Re: HP 3700DN configuration on HP-UX

Hello Geir,

If you want to configure your HP LJ C3700DN printer to use all of it's capabilities, HPPI is the best solution.

To download :

http://www.hp.com/go/hppi_sw

you can of course do the download from your Windows box and then use an ftp transfer (binary mode) to the HP-UX server.

The other alternative is to configure your printer as a remote printer using SAM but this is a limited mode with only few options.
