Hello

Having problems assigning points today. I get the 'thanks for assigning points message', but when I go back into the message, all replies are showing unassigned. Managed to get them in there eventually.

I got a First Time message on my third reply to the post. Also the guy says he gave me 10 points and it didn't take.

Bill,

That sounds more like a "success" than an "issue".

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

Hi Dan,

I, too, have had problems assigning points to one of my posts this weekend. I assigned points to some new responses to my Sys Admin Humor thread Friday night, or so I thought. I noticed on Saturday that there was another new response to that thread so I went in to assign points to it only to discover that my point assignments Friday night didn't take. The first time I assigned points Saturday didn't take either. I had to go through and assign points 2 or 3 times before the points assignments finally took properly.

There were no error messages displayed, and I was logged in.

Something is definitely fishy with the points assignment process.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

Hmmmmm......Point assignment to a single response to my Forums Etiquette thread was successful on the first try just a minute or 2 ago.

I was assigning points to multiple responses to my Sys Admin Humor thread Friday and Saturday. Conincidence?

Hi Dan.
Me again, the pain in the neck.
The forums have really improved during the last months. The ongoing efforts of the crew supporting it and the feedback this crew got from the customers made this possible i think. Speed has REALLY become better now and the reliability is much better than before.
Thanks to you and your crew, Dan, for a job well done.
May the force be with you. ;-)

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

Hi Dan

The search facility has improved enormously recently - good effort. One question, when you search the forums, would it be possible to inidcate if the threads have had a 'magic bunny' answer?

Also, I really like the fact that the question is now shown when you get to the reply screen, however, for me, it would be really useful if all the other replies were there as well.

Apologies, if any of this has been discussed previously and I've missed it.

Cheers

Today I all the time get a REQUEST_INVALID when posting responses (see "Details" below).

When I do a Refresh (while still on the error message page) and answer Retry to the prompt [1], the response is posted correctly, untill the next response.

I use Internet Explorer 5.00 and have not made any changes on my side.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

Hi Dan,

I noticed something when I was assigning points to my Forums Etiquette thread today, which I had to do twice before it actually took.

The first time I assigned the points, clicked on submit and was taken to the next screen. I then selected to option to go back to the HP-UX Family page. When I went back to the thread, the points has not been properly assigned.

The second time I assigned the points, clicked on submit and was taken to the next screen. I then selected the option to go back to the Forums Etiquette message. When I scrolled down to the bottom, points had been assigned to the last 3 responses as they should have been.

It seems like that is what I did Saturday when the points assignment finally worked as well.

Is there something going on where points don't get assigned if you go anywhere except back to the message itself?

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

Patrick, thanks for your diligence in testing the points assign function. I tested it by going back to the thread and also by going back to the HPUX family page. In both instances, points were assigned properly. I'll get the lab to look into this.

Neely and Alexander, thanks for the positive feedback. Neely, your suggestion has been noted for all replies to appear in reply window.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

Hi Dan!

You have maybe cought wind of 1 of these, but I'd like to toss out a few possible changes to the site. (when/if possible) from thread "http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x282c4b3ef09fd611abdb0090277a778c,00.html"

1. added option for closing thread from postee.

2. toggle for magic answer instead of a 10 point answer.

3. the ability to change points after assignment.

I dont think any of these will be easy, but.... worth a shot.

Thanks, and keep up the good work!

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

Came in to work very early yesterday after a powerdown over the weekend and low and behold our service guard cluster wouldnt start! kept getting permission denied when tried to start the cluster with cmruncl.

Couldnt find anything about this error on dutchworks, but a quick search on the ITRC forums came up with lots of replies, of which the 2nd one on the list was the perfect solution. Nice and quick - faster than I would get from the RC easily. Well done forums!

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

As with several other people, I've had the usual problems posting replies.

back/refresh/paste/submit normally works, but can take two or three attempts at times.

I've had the problem both from a network connection at work (I think it's a 2mb link), and from home using a 56k modem, but oddly, I've had less problems when using the modem.

Could it be some kind of firewall issue?

Using Netscape 6.2, I keep getting a Page Not Found area trying to enter specific areas, such as networking. Netscape 4.76 seems to be able to enter the areas without any problems.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

Hi Chris,

I've seen problems with what you describe traced back to firewall issues. However, Hilary's issue is similar, so I'll report this into the lab for investigation.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

Dan -
I'm sure this may have been asked elsewhere, but -
When checking ones's replies, is there a way to time stamp them?

When I can reply, I try to follow up to find the author's solution. If a response I contribute does not get a 10, it appears in the left column of profile responses. That's o.k., but it would be nice to know where recent points came from. In many cases, it may be a response you have long forgotten and looking through each of these "non 8+ responses" is time consuming and inhibiting to those who wish their response was of benefit.
Of course, the real answer may be to "not give non-10 responses", but being relatively new, I make every attempt to share what has/has not worked for me and am really interested in solution responses.
Solution responses are of utmost imprtance to the training of forum members.

Thanks Dan.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

Hi Dave,

Please clarify a bit more. In your "responses" list, a date is provided that indicates when you made each message posting. If you are referring to knowing when someone assigns points to your reply, that is a different story. Please elaborate for me on your suggestion.

Thanks!

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

Hi Dan,

Check out this thread:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xce0c57bd90a9d611abdb0090277a778c,00.html

It appears that the author's profile is fried. It is showing a URL (/cm/a bunch of stuff) instead of the author's name.
