Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

This has probably been covered before but is there any chance of there being a link page off of the HP-UX sysadmin forum to non-HP sites concerning HP-UX (obvously with a disclaimer from HP).

There are a number of sites that are most useful such as the Liverpool HP-UX porting site, HP user group sites or procuras site. I have been slowly setting up my own links page at my site http://www.nickwickens.co.uk/links.html(mainly because I tend to lose my favorites every time I update the company prefered Micro$oft Explorer) but it would be difficulat for someone new to the job to locate these sites in the first place.

Hi Dan,

me again... and the message does not change (but I am on a totally different system, network, and browser now):
Could Not Open URL
The URL you requested, /cm/components/FileAttachment/0,,0x538a93e260b0d611abdb0090277a778c,00.reg , does not exist or is not retrievable at this HP IT Resource Center Web site.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

Hi Wodisch,

Here is what I tried and it seemed to work:

After clicking on the attachment, I removed the ",00" in the URL path of the browser and used a .txt extension. The resulting URL is:

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/components/FileAttachment/0,,0x538a93e260b0d611abdb0090277a778c.txt

Once downloaded, I opened it in a text editor. I hope this helps....

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

G'day Dan,

I had the problem with assigning points again this morning. I assigned points to my Sys admin humor thread once, and when I went back to it, they hadn't been assigned.

What I THINK happened here is that I clicked to go back to the HP-UX family page BEFORE the Points confirmation page had finished loading. I don't know if there is something there that doesn't get loaded or done if you click prematurely.

When I went back and assigned points the second time, I waited until the confirmation page had finished loading and then went back to the HP-UX page. This time all was well.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

1. Attachments are still truncated (though you must admit that the member links work fine in the statistics :)
2. Search is still directed to the us site (you should try to reverse it to always link to Europe and see how many complaints you get from the US users)
3. https:// addresses are still not recognized
4. FAQ section from Forum home still only to US (see 2.)

Hi Dan,

thanks for your help with that attachment - I could open it your way (it just didn't contain what I wanted, though).

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

Dear all,

On August 12 and 14, I reported about the REQUEST_INVALID errors I got when posting and when displaying articles found by the search facility.

I am glad to inform you that I found a solution for this:

(Partially) Clear the cache ("Temporary Internet files") of your Internet Explorer browser.

I did the following:

Delete all Temporary Internet files of the last three days, i.e.:

Tools -> Internet Options... -> General -> Temporary Internet files -> Settings... -> View Files... -> sort all files on "Last Accessed" and select and delete all files, including cookies, of the last three days.

Note that it is probably better not to delete the cookies, but I did not know a way to delete the hundreds of (other) files, but not the cookies.

So this looks to have indeed been a browser issue instead of an ITRC Forums issue. It is strange that I *only* had problems with the ITRC Forums and then only with posting and with displaying documents found by the search facility.

I hope this is of some use to someone with the same problem(s).

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

When I try to open a link (outside our own ITRC-domain) in another browser, the link is wrapped around with a javascript command like javascript:openExternal('http://us-support2.external.hp.com/emse/bin/doc.pl/forward/screen=emseHome/sid=cd0032ad1dbe5820dc?')

I first have to remove the javascript command to be able to see the page.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

Donald, a nuisance indeed, which is even worse in Opera, which open the link in a new window *without* scroll- and title-bar. These are easy to get back with key shortcuts, but I'd also like a simple link instead. If I want a seperate window, I will use Shift-Click instead.

Odd behaviour on the link

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x5ce6d211e18ad5118ff10090279cd0f9,00.html

It took several attempts before it worked - when it didn't, it brought up a header for a job seekers web site, then to

http://search.hp.com/jobseekers/totaljobs.asp

with the message

we're very sorry!

An error occurred while trying to retrieve your request.
This error could have been caused by:

An error on the source web server
Bad / misspelled URL
Your network connection and/or transient conditions on the Internet

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

Hi Dan,

congratulations first for the good job and good ITRC. We use this website very often and we almost have no problems.
The only bad thing is the very slow response time of the whole itrc. Sometimes it takes so long that I got a timeout from the browser.
what is the problem? The response has always been so slow and not been improved as far as i can remember.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

Hi Dan,

Having troubles again to post answers this morning. Have a look at
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x7b9c93e260b0d611abdb0090277a778c,00.html

I had a timeout after submitting my answer before I've got the 'Thanks for your answer' confirmation window. I've opened a few new browsers to see if it was posted or not. It didn't get posted and then suddenly it was posted four times.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

Procura, I use Opera indeed!

Dan,
When I make an new question to the forum, I get the screen with the points assignments. Is it possible to check if the user has understood previous pointassignments screens.

F.I if user has started an number of threads, and has assigned points to reply's, you can assume he knows the concept of the points and doesn't need the pointsscreen.
Just a thought.

For the rest, it is a pleasure to enjoy the ITRC forum. The ITRC works quit well and fast, and the content is very good. It is my number one source for solving problems. Besides that it is fun to help someone else out in their problems.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

Hi,

I just experienced something strange:

. I entered a response on a thread with
the title: PHNE_26771
At the time I entered my response it had
two earlier responses.
. Doing some "back" in the browser and
a "refresh" I only saw my response and
even the inital problemdescription was
gone.
. Then the whole thread was gone!!

Nice suggestion Donald. Better still: automate that. All member with an asignment percentage over 90% are not bothered with that screen :)

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

Donald, interesting idea. I'll add that to the list of enhancements I track.

Olav, not sure what occurred. Could it be possible that the thread was removed due to content? It is very rare this happens.

Kurt, not sure what happened here other than a possible network problem prevented the first post from being acknowledged when the message had actually been posted. I've deleted the additional posts.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

Dan,

within management software there are a few from HP helping without having the HP-icon:
Michel Vogelpoel (HP Service Desk development)
Vladimir Kufner (?)
Arthur Van De Waal (HP Service Desk technical marketing)
Paul Kersten (HP Service Desk technical marketing)

Could you send me a private email as well, because I would like to ask something else personally (see profile for emailaddress, I have forgotten yours...)

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

Hi Dan,

When you make a reply to a question, and you want to be notified of other replies, you have to surf back to the message, click on the [notify me] button, and then you are there.

Is it possible to put a [notify me]checkbox in the reply screen so that that is done with one click?

Or am I just lazy???

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

And Dan, to that point, could it be possible to tick *which* e-mail to use for notifications can be used from the profile's list of mail addresses?

I recently noticed I'm not the only one with that problem.

I'd also like to be ably to not receive the "There are new messages on the ITRC that might be interesting for you" mails. I've seen them all before I receive that mail.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

Hi Dan,
Something very strange has happened with thread http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xb9096049dbb6d611abdb0090277a778c,00.html

There was (originally) a question there ... and I'm 100% sure I answered to. I've found this thread back in my browser history (but it no longer has a question nor an answer from me), but it's no longer visible in the forums.

A lot of strange things ...

Tom

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - August 2002

Dan,
I don't know if this is user error or what, but I've been noticing double posts by several people in the last few weeks. I'm not sure if this could be prevented perhaps by preventing multiple new threads on the same day?? Just thought I'd post my Issue.

Thanks,
