Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Dan,

Success!!! Within the last 10 minutes or so(it's now 5:20 EST), the site has gone from unbearable to downright speedy. Pray tell, what was it?

I hear there's an outfit called HP (or something like that) that has rock solid Unix servers and software like WebQOS and MC/ServiceGuard and all kinds of forward thinking ideas to address just this kind of problem. Perhaps you should look them up. They could help you end your dependance on those pesky MicroSlop servers that seem to give you guys so much trouble.

Seriously, THANKS/

Pete

Lot of 404 errors as well as cannot open the forum question links.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Same here. I've been getting intermittent "404 Not found" errors for the last couple of hours or so.

A reload or 2 usually brings the page up though.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Hi Dan,

wow... - my first 404! Yesterday very poor performance since 15.45 GMT for several hours (I didn't tried it very long). Now everything is running very well!
I think you need some more servers for America.

Regards and a happy new year

Speedier than yesterday, but still slow at times.

Maybe folks are just getting into today since they could not yesterday.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Rather than allow this to turn completely into a discussion about the speed of the site, I thought I would throw out a 'why not' type of question. I'll start this off with the observation that leads me to this question:

I know that I'm pretty much a 'puppy' on this site compared to a lot of you ???big dogs??? that I keep seeing day in and day out, but I have been seeing a trend on here that is a bit disturbing regarding the points on this site. It appears as if there are a very large number of people that are not bothering to reward them to the people that attempt to answer their questions (present party excluded, of course).

I'm not talking about the people that take a few extra days to get around to it or the ones with two or three answers unassigned. I'm talking about the ones that look like they have never done it and have no intention of it and the ones that have a higher 'don't assign' percentage than a 'have assigned' percentage.

Currently there is no rule that requires a person to assign points to the answers that people give. My question would be, why not?

People aren???t getting charged to use this site. By the same token, most of us aren???t getting paid for answering questions on this site either. What would be the harm in making it a requirement to keep your unassigned percentage below a certain percentage if you wanted to continue posting new questions?

Dan,

This is interesting:

This member has assigned points to 553 of 565 responses to his/her questions.

It's from my own profile. On Stefan's congratulations post I created, it showed I had not posted "points" when in fact I had, but it let me do it again.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Dan,

Is there a limit as to how many responses you can assign points to? I did it in groups of four to ten and it let me assign them and they "stayed".

Now it's correct:

This member has assigned points to 565 of 565 responses to his/her questions.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Dan,

There was a brief period (15 minutes or so) this morning around 10:00 AM EST where I was experiencing multi-minute page downloads like yesterday, but it cleared.

I've come up with a new wish for my wishlist, though.

I'm sure you remember that I asked for the navigation bar at the top of the page (my current one reads "IT resource center forums > hp-ux > general") to be repeated at the bottom of the page. It would help simplify navigation greatly.

Along those same lines, would it be possible to make patch references into hyperlinks? It would be nice, when you're referred to such and such a patch to solve a problem, to just be able to click on the patch name and view the details. I'm probably pushing my luck, aren't I?

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

I was trying to find a message that I had posted early in January. I used the search button but it doesn't include my post of Jan, 2003. I searched on all words and used load 11i OE as the search criteria. My post that I updated today doesn't show up in the search results. The heading of the post is
load 11i OE then add MirrorUS and GlancePlus

Searching on my name Mueller doesn't bring it up either.

Is the search engine working or am I using it incorrectly?

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Dan,

Now that both Jim and Clay have passed the 30,000 point mark (see
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x609d4a988422d711abdc0090277a778c,00.html
), isn't it time to start thinking about new headgear?

A halo has been suggested (but may be politically incorrect), or a star, but these guys need some sort of goal to continue to strive for. We need new headgear for 50,000 points - and we might as well come up with something for 100,000 while we're at it.

What do you think?

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Forums are REALLY speedy right now at 8:20 CST.

They were a bit slow up until 8:15, what the heck is going on?

Keep the speed just as it is now.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Hi all,

is it possible to include not only the date but also the time when a reply was added to a posting. Makes it easier to check when the last answer was added.

Thanks,

Jochen

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Dan,

It happened again - right around 10:00 AM EST. It took me 2 minutes and 20 seconds to reload the hp-ux home page, 2 minutes 15 seconds to open this thread, then a minute and a half to open the reply page.

I think it's better now, though.

Pete
