Re: predicative support vs EMS
Each has it's own functionality, and each will have areas that it "looks" at, that are not covered by the other.
Predictive will look at the growing disk error logs, EMS to my knowledge does not.
Predictive is designed to call back to eth HP Response Centre and alert them to pro-actively prevent issues, whereas EMS does NOT contact the HP RC.

Re: predicative support vs EMS
You might as well have a look at the newest HP support product ISEE.
http://www.hp.com/hps/instant/isee.htm
This replaces Diagnostics/predictive/EMS

Re: predicative support vs EMS
ISEE does not require a Telephone line.
Also
The line that predictive uses can be set not to accept incoming calls.

SolutionAs far as I am aware of, predictive can be configured to send mail to administrators or anyone else.
For ISEE I don't know, see the documentation mentioned earlier.

Re: predicative support vs EMS
Predictive will be out of support next year. I wouldn't set on a dead horse when I start something new.
ISEE doesn't need a phone line, it needs an internet connection.
EMS has a lot of interfaces like e-mail or SNMP. It might be a good choise in your case.
If you want to start in a serious manner, I would recommend you the following book: http://www.hp.com/hpbooks/prentice/ptr_013026525x.html
